Harley-Davidson and the Urban Ethnic Market

Harley-Davidson has been a bit week when it comes to the ethnic markets. This has become an important topic for them and the real quest is how to reach this target market. Because of the demographics in Metro Atlanta it hasn’t been a concern until now. There has been a lot of change within the last three years with more people relocating to Atlanta from California, Louisiana, New York, New Jersey and other major states. With this taking place it has diversified the metro area.

Most people think that African Americans, Hispanics and Women don’t ride these powerful machines as much as white males; quite the contrary, they are riding Harley-Davidson's and more would ride if Harley-Davidson would tailor their marketing & advertising campaigns and pricing to reach them. It has become important for Harley-Davidson to reach Women, African Americans and Hispanics because the white male baby boomers are not buying motorcycles as often as they use to.

The marketing and advertising Harley has been known for was used to entice the white male to walk into their dealerships and buy a new bike. This won’t work today if they want to reach the ethnic market. It doesn’t fit their need or their desire. To reach the Urban Ethnic Riders it actually has to be replaced with a campaign that will evoke power, bling, individualism and freedom.

In California it isn’t hard to find a t-shirt, sweatshirt, hoodie or work shirt with the, “Black Harley Rider” emblem on them. Harley may want to take a look at this to start reaching this market by giving them what they desire.

Being a black man that owns a harley i feel like this is the most disrespectful thing ive seen in a while. Why should harley have to appeal to black riders if you would look back in history blacks have been riding harleys for years and even invented the bikes in easy rider be more original come up with you own style nothings worse than seeing someone that look like they just stepped out a harley mag so if you want to be lame and a yuppie by this shirt
