Derek Lam handbags have gained a cult following over the years and his current resort collection may prove to broaden his reach; resulting in a gain in his handbag popularity. Derek Lam showed edgy handbags for Fall 2010 which included studded clutches and studded, floppy hobo bags. For his resort collection, Derek Lam has created a cleaner, more refined handbag line that blends well into the current vintage and minimalism trends; despite the fact that his clothing collection defied the trends.
Derek Lam's resort collection featured a color palette filled with rich tan, bright orange, purple, navy, black and white. Derek Lam's resort collection is giving Fashionistas a fresh take on the shorter hemlines and color palettes du jour. Lam's collection features asymmetrical hemlines and necklines in bright orange and purple; which fits into the 1960's candy colored trend for resort. The resort collection by Derek Lam also features loose silhouettes and layered looks that are easy to wear and work for many occasions. The clean lines, ladylike silhouettes and color palette's set the perfect backdrop for Derek Lam's resort handbag collection.
Derek Lam's handbag collection for resort 2011 fit right into his collections' clean lines and can easily be worn with any of Lam's dresses, skirt/blouse combinations or more casual shorts outfits. Derek Lam is featuring a fabulous red shoulder bag with a short strap that tucks easily under the arm. The red shoulder bag is medium sized and can easily be worn on a daily basis with minimalism looks. Derek Lam is also showing long strap mini-bags with silver or bronze, flower shaped clasps; in line with the 1970's trend. The shoulder strap brings the mini-bag down to the bottom of the hip bone. The long strap Derek Lam chose for his mini-bags have given Fashionistas the choice to wear the handbag either cross-body or as a shoulder bag.
Derek Lam is also showing small clutches that are casual with clean lines, woven leather and side tassels; adding a bit of ladylike sass to the overall look. The clutches can be worn to work or to an outdoor event such as Shakespeare in the Park.
There is also a north/south tote bag in Derek Lam's resort handbag collection. The tote bag is in line with the current north/south tote trend and is featured in a eye-catching ocean blue. The tote is casual and perfect for weekend getaways to the beach or a cruise.
Derek Lam's resort handbag collection is clean and unembellished. The studs have been left behind and the overall look of the handbag collection has become clean, classic and easily wearable for casual, work or everyday occasions. With this collection, Derek Lam has created handbags that Fashionistas can feel comfortable wearing not only with Lam's collection, but with any designer collection. The bags are versatile and although they are right on trend, Derek Lam's resort handbags are also classic and can easily be worn for decade's.
It should be interesting to see what variations of his resort collection Derek Lam will bring to the Spring runway on September 12, 2011 at 10am eastern time during his New York Fashion Week show. Derek Lam fans are hoping there will be more mini-bags with the longer strap, more north/south totes and dressier clutches for evening.
