Alexander Wang handbags for resort 2011 are playing off of Wang's popular, cult status Rocco mini-duffel. The Rocco mini-duffel in black is a celebrity favorite and is often photographed on the arm of Lindsey Lohan. Alexander Wang's resort 2011 runways showed classic Wang handbags and edgy fashions that play off of the Fall chunky knit trend while combining the upcoming resort and Spring trends such as mini-skirts, menswear and cropped ankle pants. The Rocco mini-duffel was clutched in the hands of models as if it were a soft, daytime clutch as opposed to a top handle tote with detachable strap.
Alexander Wang, like other handbag designers, is showing small and medium sized handbags; a stark move away from the larger handbags and totes we have been seeing over the past decade. As fashion moves towards more feminine and vintage styles, handbags are shrinking and Alexander Wang followed suit by showing a smaller version of the Rocco mini-duffel on the runway. Unlike other designers such as Christian Dior who are showing candy colors for resort and presumably Spring, Alexander Wang has stuck with Fall's minimalism trend and opted to show mostly black, white, dark beige and cream with a touch of dark teal and Bordeaux thrown in. The handbags Alexander Wang showed on the runway were either black, brown or bone and shown paired with all of the color palettes Wang sent down the runway.
Although other designer have moved towards cleaner, less embellished handbags, Alexander Wang has decided to stay with what his customers want; his Rocco mini-duffel with studded bottom. Like Balenciaga fans, Alexander Wang fans are loyal and look for very slight variations of Wang's handbag designs from season to season. This version of the Rocco mini-duffel might be the hit handbag Alexander Wang fans are seeking.
Alexander Wang's resort handbags are edgy and true to the spirit of Alexander Wang's line in general. The handbags have clean lines on the sides while being heavily studded underneath; giving Alexander Wang handbags an understated edginess that many Fashionistas can relate to. It should be interesting to see if Alexander Wang adds more color for his Spring line being shown later this month during New York Fashion Week, or if he will stick to the minimalism color palette that is currently trending from Fall.
