Working out in a traditional gym setting may not be the right thing for you. Lifting heavy weights, running on treadmills and spinning on bikes may not be your idea of a good time. So how can you find the right workout for you?

On the North Shore there a number of gyms and programs that cater to the circuit training clientele.
Facilities like Curves offer a different type of workout than you would find in a traditional gym. Setting up a series of stations and having an intermission of cardio between each strength training bout is the basis for these centers. These gyms are only for women, and are a great place if you feel out place in a traditional gym setting.

Circuit training is a terrific way to lose weight. Studies have shown that people who do circuit training lose fat and gain muscle at a faster pace than participants who lift weights and do cardio in a traditional way (all weights, all cardio).

Another gym on the North Shore that offer circuit based classes is Wolfes Self Defense where they offer a class called 30 Minute Hit. This high intensity boxing circuit includes ...”13 stations that last for two minute intervals...working with swiss balls and medicine balls,” according to their website. This class is also for women only, and was designed to meet the needs of the modern woman.

Boot camp classes abound in North Vancouver, and many also follow the circuit format. Happening both indoors and outdoors, these classes take their participants to the next level of intensity, building up their cardiovascular endurance, strength, and helping them to lose weight and fat quickly. Some of the popular bootcamp companies in North Vancouver are: Survivor Bootcamp, Ultrafit, and CardioCore Bootcamp.

So if you’re in a fitness rut and are tired of the traditional gym setting, why not try out a circuit facility or class? You’ll get a great sweat, keep things different and learn how to exercise in a whole new way.
