Spinning class is in session!
Perspiration drips off of your brow as you begin your ascent. The hill keeps getting steeper and steeper forcing you to stand up to maintain your pace. Another rider pushes past you, so you pedal even faster to retake the lead. Your lungs are burning and your heart feels like it is about to burst from your chest, but the crest of the hill is just ahead. Right when your legs begin to give out, you triumphantly reach the top. Resplendent in your moment of victory, you hear "O.K. lets bring the resistance down to 3, it's time to recover and re-hydrate!"
Chances are you won't be wearing the yellow jersey at this year's Tour de France, but if the above scenario sounded exciting to you, you are in luck. Indoor cycling classes are now a mainstay at gyms and fitness centers around the country and Orlando is no exception. Check out the list below to discover the best spots to Spin in The City Beautiful.
The Central Florida YMCA offers indoor cycling classes at many of its centers. The Y definitely benefits from its 27 locations across Central Florida which ensure that no matter where you are, there is a Y nearby. Class times vary from center to center, so your best bet is to visit the Central Florida YMCA website, find your local Family Center, and take a look at their group exercise schedule. The YMCA requires that their instructors are certified in Spinning or Indoor Cycling, so regardless of which Family Center you visit you can be assured that you will get quality instruction. Also, spinning classes are free with a Y membership, so getting your daily dose of Spin will not leave your wallet drained.
Gold's Gym offers a unique cycling experience. Their Spin rooms are adorned with images that, when illuminated by black-lights, come to life with scenes from the cosmos. Combining the eye-popping visual effect with pulse pounding music and an energetic instructor urging you to "push-through!" makes this a can't miss class. Gold's has three locations in Orlando (Altamonte Sprins, Oveido, and the Dr. Philips Center off Turkey lake Rd.) and cycling classes, as well as all of their other group exercise programs, are included in the membership price.
Fitness Partners Workout Center located in Altamonte Springs switches up the standard cycling class formula by offering several different types of classes. There are 30 minute "Express Cycle"s, "Cycle with Abs", and "Cycle with Muscle" along with the pure cycling classes. The atmosphere at Fitness Partners is very warm and friendly and the members are a dynamic bunch (not at all competitive) which makes the tough workouts a blast. Fitness Partners also features the Reebok brand spinning bikes and certified instructors.

Great intro! Best way to bust flab on a cycle w/no impact on knees or back. Novices need to be careful to pace and not get caught up w/group energy; three days after my first class had an awful pain in my right hip. Looks easy, but cycling works on lots of hip and buttock muscles.
Good point. At least Spinning, unlike many other group exercise classes, gives novices an opportunity to participate at their own level without embarrassment. The resistance knob (or lever on Reebok bikes) is discrete and no one else knows how hard or easy you're making it.
