Lauren Mitchell, AUS, bars: Because if Mitchell had (note: past tense) a weak event, bars was it. Doesn't seem the case anymore -- this routine beat the likes of German bars specialist Anja Brinker and Russia's Anna Dementyeva. Watch it here.
Wang Guanyin, CHN, parallel bars: Given China's depth and the fact that there are only so many event specialists you can put on a five-man Olympic team, I wonder how much more we'll be seeing of the 2009 World parallel bars champion, especially as he didn't bring home gold here (that went to Slovenia's Mitja Petkovsek, also a former World champ on p-bars). Still, this routine is simply stunning. He takes a bunch of really hard skills and makes them look easy, and does so with a measure of calmness that sets him apart, even amongst the Chinese. Watch it here.
Hannah Whelan, GBR, beam: Terrific switch leap to Onodi combination and stuck 2.5 twist dismount. Bonus: she really throws her head back on her switch ring leap. Watch it here.
Daniel Purvis, GBR, floor: The man gives a clinic on tidy landings every time he performs. And look at the smoothness as he rolls out of his layout Thomas! Watch it here.
Philipp Boy, GER, high bar: A Cassina. A stuck landing. And loads of star power. After several years on the German national team perfecting this difficult routine, Philipp Boy has finally arrived. Watch it here.
