The Russian women dominated the rhythmic gymnastics competition at the Youth Olympic Games, walking away with gold in both the individual and group categories in Singapore.
The Russian quartet of Ksenia Dudkina, Olga Ilina, Alina Makarenko and Karolina Sevastyanova also captured the gold, beating silver medalist Egypt (Farida Eid, Jacinde Eldeeb, Manar Elgarf and Aicha Naizi).
The Canadian team -- twins Angelika and Victoria Reznik, Melodie Omidi and Katrina Cameron -- improved to bronze medal position after qualifying to the final in fourth place. Japan, which qualified in second for the group final, incurred a 0.4 deduction with the four hoops and fell to fourth, just missing a medal.
Russia's Alexandra Merkulova, 15, easily won gold in the individual final over Belarus's Arina Charopa of Ukraine. Germany's Jana Berezko-Marggrander finished with the bronze.
