William & Mary vs. Towson @ Towson: Towson 192.6, William & Mary 187.45. Led by all-around champion Kacy Catanzaro (38.575), Towson gymnasts swept the first place finishes in what proved to be an easy win over William & Mary. Alise McDonald and Jackie Schweitzer each won two event titles, with McDonald recording the meet's highest scores on vault (9.85) and floor (9.825), and Schweitzer winning uneven bars (9.75) and balance beam (9.8). Nebraska vs. Missouri @ Nebraska: Nebraska 194.7, Missouri 193.275. Missouri's Sarah Shire continued what is turning into a gold-laden senior campaign, winning the all-around (38.875) despite having an uncharacteristic mistake on bars (9.325). Illinois vs. Iowa @ Iowa: Illinois 195.225, Iowa 192.95. Illinois won the meet, but it was Iowa's Becky Simbhudas who took home the top prize in the all-around, tallying 39.4 ahead of Illinois stars Allison Buckley and Melissa Fernandez. All three gymnasts scored 9.875 for a share of the beam title. Simbhudas also had the top marks on vault (9.85) and uneven bars (9.85) and tied for first on floor with Illinois's Sarah Schmidt (9.825). (HawkeyeSports.com)
Ohio State vs. Michigan State @ Michigan State: Michigan State 194.875, Ohio State 191.425. Michigan State freshman Shanthi Teike led a Spartan sweep of the all-around (39.025) and MSU gymnasts notched the top three places on each event except balance beam. Pittsburgh vs. New Hampshire @ New Hampshire: New Hampshire 194.95, Pittsburgh 191.675. Pittsburgh's Alicia Talucci tallied the highest scores of the meet in the all-around (38.85) and had a near perfect vault (9.975), but it wasn't enough to lift Pitt over New Hampshire, which turned in another solid team performance. UNH's Helena Diodati won uneven bars (9.825), Danielle Reibold, Chelsea Steinberg and Taryn LaFountain each received 9.875 to tie for the beam title, and Steinberg and teammate Julie Sauchuk posted the best scores on floor exercise (9.825). Yale vs. Penn @ Yale: Yale 187.775, Penn 179.6. A good deal of Penn's troubles came from the fact that it only used five gymnasts on uneven bars, and only one of them broke 9.0. Aside from that, Yale swept the top three places on every event except balance beam. Brigitte Kivisto was the top scorer in the all-around (38.875) on uneven bars (9.55) and floor exercise (9.85), while Tara Feld won vault (9.85) and Allison Mak posted the high score on beam (9.825). Penn State vs. Alabama and Minnesota @ Penn State: Alabama 196.6, Penn State 196.025, Minnesota 192.85. What's interesting about this meet is not that no. 1 Alabama won, but that Penn State came oh-so-close to matching their score. Alabama, coming off last week's 197.45, was not as stellar as it might have been on bars and floor, but it also chose to rest some of its A-team gymnasts from all-around competition this week. The lone all-around gymnast from Alabama was senior Morgan Dennis, who won the overall competition with a score of 39.275. Surprisingly, neither Dennis nor Penn State's Brandi Personett, who scored a 10 on vault last week, won that apparatus; the top vault score of the meet went to Alabama's Geralen Stack-Eaton (9.925). Personett had the high score on floor (9.9), and Alabama sophomore Ashley Priess won uneven bars (9.925) and balance beam (9.9). (GoPSUSports.com)
UIC vs. Southeast Missouri State @ Southeast Missouri State: Southeast Missouri 193.8, UIC 188.725. North Carolina State vs. Oklahoma, Alaska and Texas Women's @ Metroplex Challenge: Oklahoma 196.1, North Carolina State 195.225, Texas Women's 191.225, Alaska 188.9. OU gymnasts dominated this quad meet, with senior Hollie Vise winning uneven bars (9.925) and balance beam (9.925). In addition senior Jackie Flanery won floor (9.95). In addition, redshirt freshman Natasha Kelley added vault to her repertoire tonight, scoring 9.775 and further proving that, contrary to popular belief, your ACL does not need to be intact in order to have a successful collegiate gymnastics career. NC State's Jess Panza won the all-around competition. It should be noted that results from this meet are incomplete because of technical difficulties with the scoring system and should be verified sometime Sunday. (SoonerSports.com)
Air Force vs. UC Davis @ Air Force: UC Davis 191.575, Air Force 185.3. Freshman Katie Yamamura's all-around winning mark of 38.475 helped Davis to a solid win over Air Force. Two gymnasts from each school captured event finals -- Davis's Leda Gehlen won uneven bars (9.85) and teammate Marcy Miller beam (9.8), while Air Force's Brittany Dutton won vault (9.625) and Jenna Dudley floor (9.775).
