The latest NCAA gymnast to get a 10 on vault? Michigan junior Kylee Botterman, who gave her school its first perfect 10 since 2004 and the first of Botterman's NCAA career.
Vault is the only event any NCAA gymnast has received a 10 on so far this season. Other gymnasts to do it thusfar have been Nebraska's Erin Davis, Penn State's Brandi Personett, Oklahoma's Sara Stone and UCLA's Vanessa Zamarripa.
Saturday's capsules:
Illinois vs. Michigan @ Illinois: Michigan 196.775, Illinois 196.175. Led by junior Kylee Botterman's 10 on vault, Michigan held on for the road win against Illinois. Botterman not only posted a perfect score, she won the all-around (39.675) and uneven bars as well (9.9). Illinois's Melissa Fernandez won beam (9.875) and teammate Sarah Schmidt won floor (9.95). Ohio State vs. Penn State @ Ohio State: Ohio State 194.95, Penn State 193.85. Penn State star Brandi Personett won the all-around (39.4) and won or tied on three other events, but it wasn't enough to put the Nittany Lions over Ohio State. Personett tied teammate Sharaya Musser for first place on vault (9.9) and beam (9.875) and also won floor (9.925). But Penn State was forced to count a fall on bars, two falls on beam and a 9.475 on floor. Ohio State did not have Personett's scoring power, but on the whole they made fewer mistakes. Penn State's Madison Merriam was the top gymnast on bars (9.775). (GoPSUSports.com)
North Carolina State vs. Pittsburgh @ North Carolina State: North Carolina State 194.95, Pittsburgh 191.9. North Carolina State's Taylor Seaman and Brooke Barr each won one event and tied teammates for another. Seaman, who had the highest score on uneven bars (9.85), also tied Barr and Morgan Johnson for the vault title (9.775). Barr took floor on her own (9.85), while all-around winner Brittany Vontz (38.95) was the top finisher on beam (9.775). (GoPack.com)
Rutgers vs. Bridgeport, William & Mary and Southern Connecticut @ Rutgers: Bridgeport 190.9, Rutgers 190.875, William & Mary 189.0, Southern Connecticut 188.85. Bridgeport's Tiara Land won vault (9.875), while William & Mary's Teenie Beck won uneven bars (9.775) and tied for first on beam with Bridgeport's Emily Repko (9.6). Rutgers's Kiah Banfield came through for the home team to win floor exercise (9.9). Beck also won the all-around (38.6, career high). (TribeAthletics.com)
Temple vs. West Chester and Springfield @ West Chester: Temple 188.15, West Chester 181.275, Springfield 179.925. Temple junior Katie Canning won vault (9.65), beam (9.6) and floor (9.8), while Chelsea Troutman took bars (9.7) and West Chester's Kaley LaFleur won the all-around (36.875). (OwlSports.com)
Wisconsin-Stout vs. Texas Woman's University @ Texas Woman's: Texas Woman's 193.625, Wisconsin-Stout 181.95. It was a successful meet for both teams. Texas Woman's won the team title, and sophomore Rashonda Cannie won the all-around (38.6) and tied with teammate Marcella Fallon for the floor title (9.725). Fallon was also first on vault (9.7). TWU freshman Brittany Johnson scored 9.875 to win on bars. But Wisconsin's Naomi DeLara set a school record when she won balance beam (9.825) and her team broke its school record total on vault. Maryland vs. New Hampshire @ New Hampshire: New Hampshire 195.0, Maryland 194.35. It was a close race. Maryland and New Hampshire split the individual event titles, with all-around winner Abigail Adams of Maryland (39.0) scoring 9.9 to win the floor title while teammate Katie Lawrence won bars (9.8). New Hampshire's Chelsea Steinberg won beam (9.85) and Ally Kirkorian had the winning score on vault (9.875). (UNHWildcats.com)
