Rotation six:

Wulf, floor: Tucked Thomas. Running front souble full.

Dastrup, vault: Hands down on front front tucked full.

Strathern, high bar: Great Kovacs. Nice Tkatchev. Full twisting double layout to his knees -- not enough height or rotation for a tall guy like him.

Deaton, floor: Cranks a double double tucked to stick it. Front layout, barani. Whip 2.5.

Peters, vault: Sloppy Tsuk double full.

Aycock, pbars: Steps on the dismount.

Moling, high bar: Misses grip and has a scary moment that makes the crowd gasp, then jumps down. Concentration error, perhaps. Tkatchev. More problems with grip. Sits down double double layout, though tries to save it.

Robinson, floor: HUGE Arabian double pike. 1.5 to front double. Arabian double front side pass! Great tumbling. 2.5 to front full tucked. Whip triple full. Landed low but amazing set.

Melton, pbars: Hit routine. Coach loves it.

Howard, high bar: Two falls. High bar has been rough today.

DiBenedetto, floor: Arabian double front with a huge step forward. Looks like he stung his knee landing his 2.5 dismount. Kind of limps off the mat.

Mikulak, pommel: Hit routine! Yes, some form breaks, especially legs apart on a travel, but there's your junior 16-18 champ, no doubt.

Wang, vault: Clean Tsuk double full.

Turner, pbars: Aggressive set. Good way to end his day.

Johnson, high bar: Fall.

Robin, pommel: Fall.

Whittenburg, rings: Full twisting double layout with a hop.

Mayr, vault: Tsuk 1.5 to great landing.

Baker, high bar: Stuck dismount.

Ko, floor: Ends with a Rudi.

Burbur, vault: Tsuk full.

Martin, pbars: Back toss, one hand moves. Front somie. Off after missing a handstand and traveling

de los Angeles, pommel:

Mannon, high bar: Fall on Tkatchev. Repeats the element. Jam to Endo.

Ervin, rings: Wow! A stuck double front. Throws his arms to the side and may have cried "Yeah!" Or maybe that was his coach...

Lucas, pbars: Steps back on double pike.

Schaaf, high bar: Fall. Good full twisting double layout. Looks rather unhappy.

That seals it! Sam Mikulak wins the 16-18 age division, while Sean Melton won the 14-15 men's all-around.

Rotation five:

de los Angeles, floor: 1.5 to front full layout. Full twisting double tuck. Double full. 2.5.

Ervin, pommel: The half I saw was good...

Rubin, rings: Great double layout dismount.

Martin, vault: Scratch? Lucas, who was supposed to go after him, went first.

Schaaf, pbars: Didn't see it.

Smith, high bar: Believe it was a hit routine.

Felleman, floor: 2.5 to layout barani, stuck. Stuck Arabian double front. Russians. Cheers of, "Come on, Moose!" from the stands. Rudi. Full in dismount. Very tough routine, well done.

Dastrup, rings: Low double double tucked, but he made it.

Lucas, vault: Tsuk double full.

Strathern, pbars: Front somie, Geinger. Diamadov. Giant. Very good double pike off.

Wulf, high bar: Hit routine leaves him and Air Force coach Kip Simons with big smiles on their faces.

Powarzynski, floor: Double tuck. 1.5 to front layout. Rudi. Front double full.

Morinishi, pommel: Hit routine! He loves it.

Aycock, vault: Tsuk double full, smallest of hops.

Moling, pbars: Stuck double tuck.

Deaton, high bar: Geinger. Starts twisting really late into his dismount but gcranks a good layout double double.

Oyama, floor: Front layout double full to front half tucked. Russians. Double full to end.

Spiro, pommel: Hit routine (I believe).

Melton, vault: Great Tsuk double.

Lucas, vault: 15.2. Nice job.

Howard, pbars: Double tuck dismount, claps his hands at the end of the routine.

Robinson, high bar: Stuck full twisting double back.

Mikulak, floor: 1.5 to front double full, stuck. Wow. Double double tucked, bounced OOB. So high, though. Stuck full twisting double back to end. One of the routines of the day.

Turner, vault: Tsuk double full to his hands and knees. He's not had the best day.

DeBenedetto, high bar: Scary moment when he missed his Tkatchev. Even he looked freaked out by it. Released way too early on full twisting double layout -- coach looked ready to jump in and save him.

Robin, floor: High 2.5 to front full, excellent. Love the back pike to stomach trend -- very strong, very guyish. Roundoff triple full to end.

Whittenburg, pommel: Fall. Maybe more than one -- he got a 9.4.

Mayr, rings: Stuck dismount. Yin loves it.

Martin, vault: DTY with great landing.

Baker, pbars:

Ungar, high bar: Hecht to begin. Big step forward on dismount.

Mannon, pbars: Tripped off the mat and into the springboard on his dismount.

Ko, high bar: Hecht. Really superb work here. Stalders, wonderful lines and swing. Gorgeous double layout, almost stuck. Not the most difficult routine today, but one of the most beautiful.

Sean Melton moves into the lead in the 14-15 division, while Mikulak maintains his lead with one rotation to go.

Rotation  four :

Valdez, floor: Arabian double front. 2.5 with a step to end.

Burbur, pommel: Hit routine (I think)

Mannon, vault: Yurchenko layout.

Ko, pbars: Double tuck off with a hop.

Boyle, high bar: Off on something...full twisting double layout, way too close to the bar.

Martin, rings: 1.5 double tuck off.

Strait, floor: Arabian double pike with bounce forward. Tucked Thomas. Front full, front half tucked. Double full.

Strathern, vault: Handspring double front, first we've seen. Fights to stand it up but prevails.

Morinishi, floor: Rudi. Rudi with hands.

Moling, vault: Stuck Tsuk or Yurchenko full.

Deaton, pbars: Good routine capped with a double pike and a small hop.

Whittenburg, floor: Full out, OOB. 2.5 to...front handspring? He overrotated that one. Flairs and breakdance roll, cool. Tucked Thomas. Layout Thomas. Double full.

Mayr, pommel: Looks completely relieved at the end of his routine.

Robin, high bar: Hecht from front grip. Fall on something, but it looked like it might hvae been a flukey thing. Nice front stalders. Underrotated full twisting double layout and put his hands down.

Ervin and Mikulak lead after this rotation!

Rotation three:

Ervin, pbars: Kip, giant, Diamadov. Double tuck with a step foward. I like this guy -- clean skills done with strength and style.

Rubin, high bar: Tak half. Layout Tkatchev with little leg separation. Off on straddle Tkatchev.

Lucas, floor: Double layout. Triple full, a little short. Layout half, double down, forward roll. Tucked out of a side pass. Double tuck.

12:58 p.m.: And here come the judges, marching single file into the arena and seating themselves. A highlight montage of the 2009 Visa Championships is playing. And here are the gymnasts!

HARTFORD, 12: 47 p.m.: The sticker. Highlights of the junior men's warmups include SCATS's Sam Mikulak, one of the favorites for the junior national all-around title, who is sticking everything in sight. During the men's warmup I've saw him stick a double pike off parallel bars, a full-twisting double layout off high bar and an almost stuck double twisting double back on floor.

Mikulak has waited three years to be the top dog at this meet. He finished second to John Orozco for the past three years running in the all-around at this meet. Also looking highly impressive is Stacey Ervin, the J.O. National champion on vault. His gymnastics is clean and exciting.

The men's competition will be getting underway in just a few minutes. I'll be here, liveblogging what I see and trying to see as much as possible. Please check back often. Enjoy the competition!
