Former Stanford standout Lindsay Wing is rejoining the Cardinal gymnastics team this season as a volunteer assistant coach, Stanford Gymnastics announced this week.
As an elite, Wing was one of the first American women -- if not the first -- to perform a standing Arabian salto on balance beam, which she did in 1997. Her mount sequence -- a roundoff to three layout stepouts -- was also incredibly difficult.
Lindsay Wing, 1997 International Team Championships, Balance Beam:
Wing was too young to compete at the 1997 World Championships and did not really factor into the 2000 Olympic team selection, despite her much improved form after moving from Cypress Academy to Hill's Gymnastics, where she was a teammate of 2000 U.S. Champion Elise Ray.
But at Stanford, Wing placed second on balance beam at the 2001 NCAA Championships and helped the team to third place at the 2004 NCAA Championships, tying the Cardinal's best finish ever.
Stanford finished eighth at the 2009 NCAA Championships in Nebraska.
