Big 10 Championships: Michigan 196.900, Penn State 196.525, Iowa 195.575, Michigan State 195.350, Minnesota 195.350, Illinois 195.025, Ohio State 194.700.
Penn State, which handed Michigan its first conference loss in several years during the regular season, was not quite strong enough to deprive the Wolverines of their fourth consecutive Big 10 title.
Michigan, which will be able to brag that it knocked off the likes of Georgia in 2010, rose to the Nittany Lions's challenge and posted its highest team score so far this season.
Penn State star Brandi Personett won the all-around (39.55), followed by Michigan senior Sarah Curtis (39.525) and Penn State's Sharaya Musser (39.5). Iowa's Houry Gebeshian was the top gymnast on balance beam (9.95). Michigan freshman Natalie Beilstein was the winner on vault (9.9), while Penn State specialist Natalie Ettl won bars (9.925).
Michigan junior Kylee Botterman, who was expected to challenge for the all-around title, had what Michigan gymnastics described as a slip up on uneven bars (9.325) but rallied to finish tied for second on beam and floor and tied for third on vault. Botterman will get another chance at NCAA Regionals in two weeks.
