The 'Myths' are circulating once again.

Possibly the circulation of some bare facts will kill these myths, at least for 6 months rather than the 3 or 4 as seems to be the case now.

Let’s start with S. 2099.

S. 2099:
A bill to suspend temporarily the duty on certain heaters
Introduced Oct 29, 2009. (No Co-sponsors) 111th Congress
Referred to Committee on Oct 29, 2009 where it still sits. Theoretically Dead.
Note: This bill has absolutely nothing to do with firearms.

However:

S 2099
To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to require the registration of handguns, and for other purposes.
Introduced Feb 24, 2000 (No Co-Sponsors) 106th Congress
Referred to Committee Feb 24, 2000. OVER TEN (10) YEARS AGO. Definitely Dead.

Seattle Gun Rights Examiner - Dave Workman wrote about this here.

HR 45
Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009
Introduced Jan 6, 2009. WELL OVER A YEAR AGO. (No Cosponsors.)
Referred to Committee, where it still sits. Theoretically dead

Immediately followed by:

HR 257
Child Gun Safety and Gun Access Prevention Act of 2009
Introduced on Jan 7, 2009. OVER A YEAR AGO. (No Co-Sponsors.)
Referred to Committee, where it still sits. Theoretically dead.

S 1317
Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act of 2009
Introduced June 22, 2009. (9 Co-Sponsors.)
Referred to committee where it still sits. Again, theoretically dead.

The companion bill in the House.
HR 2159
Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act of 2009
Introduced Apr 29, 2009 (29 Co-Sponsors)
Referred to Committee where it still sits. Theoretically Dead

“Theoretically dead” is because although no action has been taken to date, the bill is still (theoretically) before Congress. The vast majority of introduced bills die in committee. If not acted upon before the end of second session of the 111th Congress at the end of this year, these bills will then be truly dead. However, the 112th Congress could pick these bills up, dust them off, assign new numbers and start the process over. The mid term elections just might be of some minor value here!

While we now wait for the SCOTUS opinion on McDonald later this year, it certainly appears that there will be no passing of federal gun legislation by either Congress or the President. If by chance, Obama was to serve a second term, which appears doubtful at this stage, then it would be a completely different ball game depending on the makeup of Congress.

Lastly, the good old USAtoday poll that keeps coming around every few months in various forms.

http://mtpundit.com/2009/02/15/usa-today-quick-question-does-the-second-amendment-give-individuals-the-right-to-bear-arms/

In the above article, notice the publication date. February 15, 2009. So the ARTICLE itself is well over a year old.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/quickquestion/2007/november/popup5895.htm

In the above link, the poll was over a year old, possibly older when it was inserted into the article. This poll was published in 2007 as shown in the above url.

Technically, the correct answer is a resounding NO. The Second Amendment does not grant or give anyone anything. It is a PROHIBITION.......repeat......PROHIBITION against the Federal Government. No more, no less. Hopefully, this same PROHIBITION will apply to the states when the McDonald decision comes down.

Thank you. My email inbox often gets clogged up with this sort of thing and panic demands to "write to your congressman."

We have enough real things to worry about and take action on. Old, dead bills should not be one of them.

We need to focus on killing the Healthcare Overhaul bill right now and worry about others as they are placed on the stove.

It would behoove everyone to start contacting their state legislators and insisting upon passage of a "Federal Healthcare Nullification Bill" or something of the like as it seems the dems are intent on forcing this on the people and taking a chance on civil uprising.

As far as I'm concerned, the people could start dragging these scumbags out of their offices and tar and feathering them this afternoon. It wouldn't take much to get me to support hanging!
