When toy guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have toy guns

Oleg Volk photo (click to enlarge)

I should be beyond surprise at the depth of anti-gun hysteria in MIchael Bloomberg's New York City, but when the City Council decides that "merely" banning toy guns is not enough, and that the city needs to consider making them more illegal, the inmates are truly running the asylum.

Speaker Christine C Quinn, together with Council Member Al Vann, today announced legislation that would increase penalties for selling a toy gun by 500 percent. The legislation would also enhance the Department of Consumer Affairs’ enforcement ability and allow the agency to shut stores that are repeat offenders of the law. Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) Commissioner Jonathan Mintz and Criminal Justice Coordinator John Feinblatt joined the Speaker and Council Members at the announcement. The officials also announced a new citywide public awareness campaign about the dangers of toy guns that look real and real guns that look like toys.

Hmm.  Are toy guns, and the pretend violence committed with them, that much of a problem in New York?  Probably not, I would guess, but City Council member Al Vann (who introduced the legislation) explains the real motivation behind the proposed law (my emphasis added).

“Gun violence is plaguing the Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights neighborhoods that I represent, as well as communities across the city and country,” said Council Member Al Vann, prime sponsor of the bill.  “When I introduced this legislation, my intentions were also to stem the glorification of guns within our communities, and push the businesses that we patronize to be responsible members of our neighborhoods. I will continue working to address gun violence and its underlying issues. In light of the senseless shooting that occurred in my district Sunday night, it is apparent that we must work more diligently to stem the violence that is afflicting our neighborhoods.”

I note that Mr. Vann doesn't claim that toy gun simulated violence is plaguing those neighborhoods, and I doubt the "senseless shooting" Sunday night was really a senseless pretend shooting, but he explains that preventing such shootings isn't the goal here--he wants to "stem the glorification of guns," i.e., smother the very gun culture (what remains of it in NYC).

I once wrote about the "wussification" of our nation's youth--the cradle-to-grave indoctrination in the dogma of the Church of Guns Are Icky.  This is yet another manifestation of that campaign.  A couple generations of boys who have been taught to recoil in horror from even imaginary games of "cops and robbers," or storming an imagined Iwo Jima with a toy Garand rifle, and perhaps the gun culture will be so weakened that there will be no one left to fight for gun rights, and the forcible citizen disarmament agenda can really get underway.

I eagerly await the next step, will Bloomberg start a Mayors Against Illegal Toy Guns?  Will he have his pet congresscritters introduce a "Toy Gun Trafficking Prevention Act"?  Will he set-up "straw" toy gun purchases at gun shows?

Defenders of Bloomberg's "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" organization argue that there's nothing "anti-gun" about the group--they're only after illegal guns--who could be opposed to that?  One of the problems is that people like Bloomberg want all guns to be "illegal guns"--even the toys.

You are 100% correct once again Kurt. However I would go a step further. In a few generations of this negative social engineering, there won't be any Americans left to fight...period!

What happens if a new soldier or marine's first encounter with a firearm is in basic training and he actually has to engage a well trained and highly motivated enemy? Is anyone going to be surprised if he cannot rise to the challenge and is killed? I firmly believe that Speaker Christine C Quinn and her ilk are undermining the ability of Americans to defend ourselves from threats foreign AND domestic.

A hostile foreign government seeking to weaken us from within could not ask for a greater gift.

If the penalties for toy guns are draconian, why bother with the toys? Only give your kids real guns.

My sentiments with Joshua -- where will the next generation of military and police come from? Or will NYC and all the other Left Coast cities become lawless enclaves? (What's that Kurt Russell movie, "Escape From New York"?)

It's time to enact the philosophy and society of Robert Heinlein in "Starship Troopers", where, in order to become a citizen, eligible to vote or hold elected, one must serve an honorable term of service in the military.

That would weed out most of the parasites. The philosophical reasoning behind this attitude is fascinating, and sound. The only problem is in shaking the old order out of power in order to enact it. And the way Kongress and the Obeyme POTUS is going, that may not be too far off.

Kurt, these idiots in New York City voted in Bloomberg for a third term. Let them reap what they sow. It never ceases to amaze me how the unwashed masses will heap praise on a demagogue, whether its Che Guevara, Saddam Hussein or Mivchael Bloomberg.

McDonald v. Chicago looms more important with each passing day. Let the NYC Council wring its hands over toy guns, while responsible New Yorkers - are there any left?-start buying the real thing.

The Bloomberg-led enterprise is self-enhancing. These quavering creatures exchange horror stories that get better with every telling and increasingly frighten themselves and others until they spiral up their own a**holes. If they attain Bloomberg's goal it won't be long before they encounter real, honest-to- God bad guys. They'll have no place to turn; no recourse. They will have to lie on the bed they made.

M2 Brownings on Pintle Mounts are TOY GUNS. Nerf guns are barely even vaguely amusing when you hit middle age. These folk need their heads examined and obviously don't know about what makes guns entertaining as toys!

Toy guns are often found in Shotgun News and at your friendly neighborhood SOT, not at FAO Schwartz.

INSTEAD OF just preaching to the choir, why not get the facts along with the proof of those facts and show them to everyone you know. When someone whimpers about all the "Children" who are being killed by guns, whip it out. show them the facts and challenge them to prove you wrong. Many of these people who go along with gun control are more victims than not. They have been brainwashed by their teachers and the mass media and even their parents. Remember only use facts! do not ever lie or even enhance the plain unadulterated truth. Use such as Gun Facts 5.0 (google it). the facts are well documented and easily proven. It is a pdf file of over 100 pages. I have downloaded it and printed it. I have reprinted it several times and given it to others to read. for instance, did you know your child is much more likely to drown in a public swimming pool than to just be shot? satercay night specials, cop killer bullets, assult weapons and such do not exist except in the fiction that the antigu

Just look at the Sullivan law and it's effect on the good people of the state. They want it all, just as all corrupt gov't. always has. Toy guns....If this doesn't open any minds, nothing will.

Clarence,....They do not care about any facts. All they care about is control. They are tyrants, and this is how tyrants operate. Until we get guts and courage, this will continue. We have the means, just not the fortitude.

n people spout? there are facts, figures and graffs showing how guns in the hands of the people crimes are prevented. People actually use guns to prevent crime many, many more times every year than crimes committed by gun users. And thats just the reported times. I have used my gun a lot of times to prevent a crime and never had to fire it. Yes, I have fired it when I did not have to. I did this safely and no-one was hurt. the wanna be was very much impressed however. None of this is part of the statistics because most of it was never reported. The bad guys took note however and never tried me. download it read it and absorb it. Quote it everywhere you can and at every opportunity. You are free to use it so long as you do not sell it. One other article to google: On Sheep, Wolves, and Sheepdogs by Dave Grossman. it is a very good analogy of the human condition. Myself, I am a sheepdog. given with love.

257XX, I am sorry you did not understand. It is the people around you, you must talk to. I do this myself at home and on the internet. Christ said to us that if the people in a town would not listen, shake the dust off your feet from that town or some such. I have gotten positive results all over the US. My isp is outdoors unlimited. I read every story and comment on them like I am commenting here. I have joined almost 100 sites and there are more like this one where you just submit a name and talk. My favorit sites are in Kalifornia and new yourk. lol.

I was interrupted and am afraid I did not quite make myself clear. If the people are educated enough the tyrants cannot win. It is a proven fact that our kids and this goes back many years, are brainwashed about many things in our schools. many people only follow the news in the local newspapers and on the tv. since all they hear is the unproven bs that is fed them. they begin spouting this crap everywhere. SOMEONE, meaning me and you and other right minded pwople must attempt to re-ecucate them. We must counter the schools teachings at home. The bambi syndrome s very much alive and well. they even twist history and civics items. Educate yourself and tech your kids differently. I became aware of this many years ago when my son came out of school hateing his country because of Nam. I am 74 years old and they brainwashed me in school. Did you know that the fable of the first Thanksiving is just that? A fable. what about George Washington? Think about tha t one.

Wonderful isp, can't live without it. But we are dealing with people here. Either the people are for the constitution and our God given right's or are against it. Guess who is against it. The very people we voted into office. The liars, the crooks, the stealers of Our Freedoms are at the helm, and the majority of us put them there. Which makes us a Democracy, which this Nation should not be. This Nation was founded of the princple of a REPUBLIC! Are YOU willing to fight for it back? Am I getting through to you Clarence.
