To BuzzFlash editor Mark Karlin, the reason for the Supreme Court's McDonald decision is simple--racism:

If you think the 5-4 partisan hack decision denying the City of Chicago the right to ban handguns is about guns, you're wrong.  (It's the same 5-4 GOP block -- with some face changes -- that put Bush in the White House and bestowed Corporate Personhood in the Citizens United Case, in short a radical right activist majority of judges.)

It's about white males in America feeling threatened by becoming a minority and the gun is their last psychological reassurance of entitlement power against an encroaching demographic change in our democracy.

That "gun rights advocacy is racist" theme is one of Karlin's (who has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from the rabidly anti-gun Joyce Foundation, for his  "gun control" efforts) favorites, as we've noted here and here.

The fact that the lead plaintiff, Otis McDonald, is a black man, is apparently of no consequence to Mr. Karlin.  Karlin also fails to bring up Justice Thomas' concurring opinion, stirringly describing the Fourteenth Amendment's intended role in preventing the forcible disarmament of freed blacks.  Courtland Milloy wrote, for the Washington Post:

Referring to the disarming of blacks during the post-Reconstruction era, Thomas wrote: "It was the 'duty' of white citizen 'patrols to search negro houses and other suspected places for firearms.' If they found any firearms, the patrols were to take the offending slave or free black 'to the nearest justice of the peace' whereupon he would be 'severely punished.' " Never again, Thomas says.

"Never again," indeed, Justice Thomas, the best efforts of people like Mark Karlin notwithstanding.  The even better news is that a growing number of black Chicagoans are rejecting the "disarmament = safety" snake oil they've been sold for decades.  We shall overcome.

And of course he conveniently ignores the racist history behind United States v. Cruikshank, the case that the dissenters said was good and resolved case law.

Racists like Karlin get off on calling everyone else "racist". It doesn't stick. Who gets murdered more in Chicago? "Whites" or "blacks"? I want innocent "black people" to have the proper tool with which to defend themselves against all attackers. Anything less is evil (and racist).

The plain simple truth is that the McDonald victory helped to level the playing field more than any other decision has in decades when it comes to allowing honest people (black or white) against the criminals who prey on them. A white man is less likely to be charged with a gun owning offense in Chicago than a black man prior to the McDonald victory. Mc Donald won one for everyone regardless of race but the biggest impact is going to be in the black community where fewer law bidding blacks will die due to gun violence and maybe more law breaking crooks of any color will if they try to use a gun. I would much rather see a million McDonald's walking the streets armed than to have them in the ground and million crooks behind bars because the McDonalds had no way to defend themselves. Let the McDonalds of the world regardless of color defend themselves and let it be the criminal that goes into the ground if there is no other choice. McDonald is a true American and we need to support him.

Facts and truth have never found their way into any of these fascist, race baiting, and pathetically ignorant Anti-Constitutionalists.

The recent defensive shootings have been black men. The black population is not far from that of whites. The next largest group is Hispanic (officially anyway). I believe the illegal population puts their numbers much higher than the Census would indicate.

So, I'm thinking more "minorities" would stand to lose in an Orwellian Chicago than whites would. For the poor souls who live in our cities keeping a weapon close at hand isn't racist. It's just good common sense.

Law abiding gun owners didn't make this country a mecca of murder and mayhem. They just have the fortunate ability to recognize the need for self protection in a country that prefers it's citizens helpless and powerless.

This guy should be outraged at the evil bastards committing the crimes and not law abiding folks living in war zones.

This is an outstanding angle to a ground-breaking case Kurt! Nicely done! Also remember, early prohibitions to conceal-carry were designed to prevent freed slaves from protecting themselves. Of course if a white man were found carrying a sidearm, the lawman would just look the other way. In general, gun control laws have almost always been veiled racism at best.

Guns have been banned in Britain since the late 1990's.

    The result?

Rising gun ownership among the criminal element and a 40% rise in gun crime in the two years following the ban.

I cant link to the source here, but the BBC has an article on it called 'Handgun crime up despite ban'

Mayor daley is promoting more Jim Crow laws. If I were Mr. McDonald,I would be enraged! Daley will be sued again and again, until he caves in! If a citizen ignored the Supreme court, they would be put in prison!
Criminals come in all sizes and colors. A firearm can be used against a criminal too! Anyone who supports gun control, supports criminals.

Only citizens with no felony charges can purchase a hand gun or a rifle. A federal background check must be performed before purchase. Then the weapon may be registered to that particular person. Outlaw guns and only non-registered Arms will be available and who has easiest access to a non-registered gun? A criminal, naturally. Disarming a country is nonsense, a pure invitation to crime increase. Britain is seeing this fact take place and Canada and Australia will as well. Just the notion that everyone MAY possess a firearm is a great criminal deterrent. The fact that committing a crime with a gun is Instant Jail Time also keeps the honest people honest. Cheap Insurance! There was no logical reason for our U.S. Government to have addressed this issue as it has, and will always be a common sense Right to Legally own guns.
