Why hasn't Obama retracted claim on Mexican 'crime guns'?

President Barack Obama, right, and Mexico's President Felipe Calderon talk during a photo session in Guadalajara, Mexico, Monday Aug. 10, 2009. President Obama huddled Monday with Mexico's President Felipe Calderon, and Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper, for a North American summit, where the swine flu epidemic and knotty disputes over cross-border trade dominated a lengthy agenda. A correspondent sent me a link to a BBC story from a few months back, "Obama backs Mexico's war on drugs." In it, the president perpetuates a falsehood about Mexican "crime guns".

Regular Gun Rights Examiner readers know we were among the first voices challenging the now-discredited "90% of Mexican crime guns come from the US" line coming from the gun ban camp. And we continue to challenge their numbers now that they've decided their prior claim hurts their credibility.

Which brings us back to our BBC report. It includes a video. Play it. And hear Obama's words:

"More than 90% of the guns recovered in Mexico come from the United States..."

When the Brady Campaign tries to dismiss their own talking points, when even the Violence Policy Center distances itself by calling attempts to tell the truth "a red herring," the game is pretty much up.

Obama made a statement that was heard by millions that we now know was a misrepresentation. Because belief in his words strongly influences public acceptance of administration policies, it is important that those who heard and believed him know the truth.

Why is it he evidently doesn't think a retraction and correction is in order?

About that contest...

Wouldn't you know it--I just got done posting about a contest to win a Taurus revolver from Guns Magazine and the very next day they changed digital issues on their website. You still can enter for the .38 from the September issue, but the October issue has something I know I'd also love to own (except I'm ineligible to enter because I write for them): A Savage .30-06 with Bushnell scope.

Click here to access the digital edition from the Guns website. And if you have one of those old steam-powered pull-start computers that don't grok new-fangled Flash presentations, you can click here to enter.

Oh, that's a gimme, David. Because he's a lying marxist, that's why. This guy's rather slippery relation to the truth is just astounding, though not quite as astonishing as the main stream media's complete oblivion to some of the bald-faced lies he's told.

Now, me, I've given some serious thought to the problems the mexican and obamican governments are alleging, and I've got a solution for them:

Obama has the narcissism personality disorder. He doesn't believe he makes mistakes. Remember calling the police that arrested the (publicly disorderly) Gates "stupid" - and then only saying he misunderstood. That is not the same thing as taking responsibility for mistakes.

And my understanding is that the majority of drug guns in Mexico do come from the US - surplus Dept of Defense weapons consigned to Mexico's Army and Police - which the Mexicans promptly lose control of, issue to troops and then wonder what happened as the troops continue to desert and sell the weapons to the drug cartels.

Of course, I cannot believe that there are gun runners flocking around a cash flow like the Mexican drug cartels enjoy. Why anyone would be concerned about weapons legally purchased making a dent in the arming of the drug cartels baffles me - it sure seems futile.

Why hasn't Obama retracted claim on Mexican 'crime guns'?

Cause he is an habitual liar?

Come on, have you forgotten? Obama doesn't make retractions. He just makes new, contrary claims, and then claims those have been his stances all along.

His ego might not allow admitting a mistake.
Stalin would not admit one either.

Yeah, it'll be great when Obama's gone. Then we'll get a Republican gun grabber instead.

All too true, Pywyll. Molon Labe, though. The advantage of having a republican socialist in office is that they are far more inclined to be political cowards who can be "encouraged" to do the right thing.

Remember Bush and the "assault weapons" ban sunset? He AND the NRA were perfectedly prepared to let it be re-enacted. NRA's original stance was "we won't oppose re-enactment", and Bush broke a campaign pledge by saying that he'd sign it if it reached his desk (while quietly maneuvering with house republicans to make sure it didn't). Grassroots guys like David rallied the troops for 2 years, and we no longer have an AWB, despite the lack of backbone in Washington. There's a lesson in that.

Has anyone payed close enough attention to Obama, if you can stomach it, to see just how much his nose has grown? I'll be glad when the day comes that bought politicians can be held accountable for their choice to not do as they are "elected" to do.

On a seperate note. Why is Kennedy still in office?
