Who is spreading fear, hatred and lies in Pittsburgh shooter story?

Pittsburgh Police investigators survey the crime scene at the second house from the right in the Stanton Heights section of Pittsburgh Sunday, April 5, 2009. An insidious new meme is being propagated following the Pittsburgh slayings--that rhetoric from conservatives, gun rights activists, the "right wing"-- is responsible for Richard Poplawski's alleged fear that Obama was going to take away guns. The first thing we need acknowledge is this is but one more case of the media rushing to judgment before the facts are in. There's a whole lotta speculation going on.

As we've noted before, Obama's own words taken from the official White House website reveal his goal of banning an entire class of semiautomatic firearms. His attorney general has revived the call. And he's based a large part of his rationale on a demonstrable lie.

We're not allowed to point that out? And reporting on their own words is now verboten?

An important component of the meme is that conservative/libertarian speech is hate speech. In the Orwellian Newspeak off the political left, the words of the framers of the Constitution are treasonous.

It's called projection. Shall we explore the sentiments coming from those who make no secret that they hate gun owners and believe in government monopoly of power? What do popular lefties have to say?

From the Daily Kos:

I really have a hard time with these nut jobs that own guns with the excuse that it's such an important right, the only one they seem to want to protect with vigor, as their being taken by the politicians they support. Idiot's.

And what type of typical response does this elicit?

The right is sociopathically incapable of that type of reflection or honesty.

They will continue to blame it all on Obama for being a "socialist".

It's time to see some of these m...s facing the business end of a SWAT team.

From the aptly-named Crooks and Liars:

He feared an Obama gun grab? Gee, I wonder where he could have heard that.

...Ironically, this is exactly the kind of incident that law-enforcement intelligence-gathering is supposed to help prevent -- intelligence like the Missouri State Patrol report so hysterically attacked by these same paranoid right-wingers. I tried to explain at the time that these kinds of extremists are in fact a very real danger to people in law enforcement, but all anyone on the right wanted to talk about was Ron Paul bumper stickers. Well, there you go.

A typical reaction from a true believer?

Hang these shootings around the necks of the fomenters. If we can see Ruandan radio folks get convicted on genocide charges, why not our very own cuddly Amurkin sleazeballs.

There's plenty more, but no point in belaboring it. You get the idea.

Still, there is one more point that needs to be made: Emerging evidence is connecting Poplawski to the white supremacist/neo-Nazi movement. Naturally, the left is trying to connect that to Constitutionalists, and paint us as "homegrown terrorists," as crooks and liars will.

Understand that the term "Nazi" comes from Nationalsozialistische, that is, "National Socialist".

Just what is it left-wingers espouse, again?

In your refenced "Emerging evidence" article, it pretty clearly shows he was under an order of protection, making him a prohibited person regardless of how he was discharged. Just another law he already violated. Also shows his violent tendancies prior to this encounter.

The reason they hate us is we are a road block to what they want this country to agree on. These Marxist hate people of faith because they block gay marriage, abortion and the long list of sickness that has rotted their minds.
Gun owners are a little different because as long as the citizen population is armed the goons are going to keep that yellow streak up their backs.
Follow this: Obama is a Marxist and what he did before the election was tie both gun owners and Christians into one brand with their guns and Bible. This was an intended effort to get useful liberal idiots on board to lump anyone against them destroying this country with their poison to rally into the mind set of: US vs Them.
People better understand this is a very deep and well engineered game plan to destroy this country has his has been. The new America is coming and the American people for far and large is sleeping right on through it. I can hear it now, "duh, duh what happen, why didn't someone tell me these people were going to enslave us as pitiful slave workers, baaaaaaa baaaaa".

You folks really need to wake up and smell whats being shoved down your throats and up your butts.

Why does the government need to take away your guns fools?! They already took everything worth taking....your jobs, your money, your kids futures, your freedoms. Now all the sudden your crying about guns?! Pathetic and dimwitted. THEY GOT EVERYTHING THEY WANTED FROM YOU ALREADY WITHOUT A FIGHT. You stupid tools.

I believe in gun rights too, but you morons are crying over fear mongering over guns while your being raped financially.

Once again they don't need your guns, you can go on killing each other as far as their concerned, just keep paying your taxes.

Well, Winston, theres no need for ad homin arguments and name calling.

I can't recall real well, but what was the American Revolution against the British about? Something about taxation and represenation? And what caused the first shots to be fired? I think it was disarmament if my mind serves me well.

I don't think I know anyone in place who can change what has been done by the tyrant and cheif, at least not right now. This is gun column because that's what it is. There are plenty of other columns on finances, and maybe you should visit those and post rants about economics. Sorry to respond to this comment highjack David, if you delete his post for being off topic, delete this too.

    Hey Winnie,

If you want to say something and be taken seriously, you should really learn to spell and have some clue about proper punctuation.

Otherwise, folks will think you're some sort of idiot. Oh, wait...

If Poplawski's atrocity is to be laid at the feet of radio and TV figures like Limbaugh, Beck, etc., on whom do we blame the actions of Lovell Mixon--hailed in some circles as a "Hero of the African Resistance."

I would think that there are plenty of race baiters who fan THOSE flames, as well.

If you actually studied history instead of making things up, you'd see that the Nazi Socialist/Fascism was a right-wing philosophy much more closely akin to what Bush did by evoking external threats in Iraq to push through wire-tapping and giant government expansions.

J, I don't see many Bush apologists here. I think you are projecting views on us that we don't necessarily hold and are assuming we are Right-Wing-Authoritarion based on prejudices the media has taken to feeding you.

Also, the National Socialist Workers Party was first a foremost Socialist, which is much more in line with what the Lightworker is doing than the previous administration. Do a little more history research and you will notice that the Facist regimes had much in common with the Communist ones. Both are inherently Socialist, both are Statist and both have no respect for private property or human life. Both believed the lie that the State can chose for an individual better than an individual can choose for him or herself.

    "Ryoki says:

Sorry Dave. Politics didn,t kill those cops, guns did."

No they didn't, the guns did not get out of the box and start shooting cops on their own. A person made a conscious decision to commit murder, violating many laws already on the books against such an act. He could have done the same with a hammer, a car, or gasoline and matches.

The thing that really disturbs me about this series of shootings is the same thing that has concerned me about other strings. Why do they seem to appear in clusters like this, conveniently timed for some push by the hoplophobes to stampede Congress into another unconstitutional gun-grab or another. My friends and I tend to refer to them half-jokingly as "windup whackos".

Part of it I'm sure is just the media going out of their way to report every little incident, and then the copycat crimes which result from the sensationalism. Awfully damned convenient for the statists that we have a ready supply of loonies out there and not enough responsible citizens prepared to stop them if necessary.

That, by the way, is one important meme to get out there. The more of our responsible, law-abiding citizens who are armed, trained, and prepared "in the gravest extreme", the better chance of intercepting someone with murderous intent.

Guns do not nor have they ever sustained life, they cannot pickk themselves up and load themselves, then run to the nearest school or business and start shooting the place up, of their own free will. That said, the folks that did pick them up and shoot people with them, had lost their minds, and would killed with a knife or car or any number of weapons, other than a gun because they wanted to do it.

Banning guns will only ban guns, what will ban the behaviour, and the act of killing??????
