"Nations open talks on world arms trade treaty," the Reuters headline informs us:

The world's nations opened negotiations on Monday on an arms trade treaty meant to regulate the $55 billion global weapons market...

"There are currently no legally binding international rules governing the trade in conventional weapons," The Associated Press reports, "and treaty supporters say gaps and loopholes in national regulations allow thousands of weapons to end up in conflict zones in the hands of serious human rights abusers."

Lobbying for the treaty is strong.

"The Control Arms Campaign, a civil society network including Amnesty International, Oxfam and Instituto Sou da Paz, has called on governments to draft a robust and effective treaty to control the arms trade, covering all weapons, ammunition and related equipment," Amnesty International declares.

And Defense News tells us "The European Union has supported a U.N. plan to negotiate an Arms Trade Treaty..."

Breaking with the policy from the previous administration, the State Department agreed to participate in the treaty drafting process, albeit with the condition of consensus. Still, the sentiment of Secretary Hillary Clinton could not be made more clear than by State's directed participation in an event last Friday:

The United States is pleased to join the international community in observing International Small Arms Destruction Day as part of our ongoing efforts to reduce armed violence and support the rule of law around the world.

The official policy, written and implemented by those who swore an oath to uphold the Constitution, is to join forces with the most radical anti-gun zealots on the planet. And to be "pleased" about it.

What's next? This "PrepCom" will continue through July 23. It's the first of three sessions to be held over the next year, with a four-week conference planned in 2012 to finalize the treaty.

After that? There's a Senate ratification process.

So how will an Arms Trade Treaty impact U.S. gun laws? What new domestic controls will be established to implement compliance and what import and export restrictions will be set? We can't say, because the treaty is being drafted. But we can speculate on a "wish list," of what they want and what they think they can get away with.

Because of this, there is much confusion and no small amount of misinformation. That's understandable. After all, when we see creatures like George Soros protege Rebecca Peters and radical citizen disarmament groups like Oxfam International  demanding light weapons bans and decrying the option for a veto, and when we see our own State Department celebrating the destruction of guns by armed liberty-crushing regimes of the world, it's obvious what the end goal of all these procedural rituals really is.

Ultimately, here's what it boils down to: Those who desire control want to take away our guns. And some of us will not disarm. No matter what they pass.

Their move.

'They can come and take it' if they want to meet their maker.

Impeachment charges should be brought against any US politician supporting this claptrap.

The UN met about this from June 11 to 18th, so I'm interested to find out exactly what they're discussing at this convention. They are working diligently to disarm the American People. NEVER, NEVER NEVER GIVE UP YOUR GUNS.

Once again I would like to thank all of the American gun owners who voted for Obama, the most anti-gun president in American History. His victory guaranteed that Ms. Clinton, wife of the second most anti-gun president in American history, would become Secretary of State thereby makeing it more likely that the UN would be able to cram this piece of garbage treaty down our throats. May you rot in a very special place in hell.

Time for another "UN Special Appreciation Day" at the range. Now, where did I put those Blue Helmet Targets?

I'd suggest that each and every gun owner print the words of the 2nd Amendment on a target, send a nice tight group downrange on said target, and send same to the UN.

If 100 million or so nicely grouped targets arrived on their doorstep, the message would be unmistakable.

We will not disarm. Period. Ever.

"...treaty supporters say gaps and loopholes in national regulations allow thousands of weapons to end up in conflict zones in the hands of serious human rights abusers."

Said without a hint of irony, of course. The most "serious human rights abusers" on the planet, of course, are--and have always been--governments. Tens if not hundreds of millions of corpses in the 20th century alone, formerly living human beings disarmed and murdered by their own governments (tinyurl.com/genocide-chart)...no private entity has EVER competed on that scale. (And that's just the *murder*.)

And yet we must still endure the faux piety of those who breathlessly insist that by applying more government force, we can somehow make it all better.

They'll spend years and uncountable quantities of plundered wealth, to come up with a(nother) self-sanction to do anything to anyone that they wish, to gain their Total Control.

I'm with David. The complete-sentence answer is simply this:

    NO.

They can pass what ever they want. The Senate will never ratify it if we can take control back over the next 2 elections.

Tell ya what, let *all* the governments and their militaries disarm FIRST and then I'll discuss the conditions for my disarmament (I doubt they'd like my conditions). Until then we have no basis for discussion at all.

Oh, give it a rest. Who do you think McCain would have chosen for Secretary of State? McCain-Lieberman? Or maybe McCain-Feingold? Hey, how about McCain-Kennedy? And just a note to any Senators or Aides to Senators if you vote for this Treaty when it comes to a vote your Career will be over. And If the Treaty is Ratified you will be living on borowed time. Because If I Live I´m Comming For You.

Back in the day before our useless FCA in South Africa, we also had a "Small Arms Destruction Day". A total of two firearms were destroyed country wide. It just proves that politicians do not listen to the people. Kick 'em out...

Yes it does. Maybe not as much as you or I would like. But I cannot imagine even a RINO like McCain posting the likes of Sotomayor or Kagan to the Supreme Court.

You get no free pass on this one Mr. Bowman. If you're planning on staying home instead of voting for the lesser of two evils because you don't think it really matters who wins, then you are part of the problem. This is no time to let the perfect become the enemy of the good enough to win. Our rights hang by our fingernails. We cannot afford for your hands to be in your pockets.

One would hope that this can be settled peacefully. In my experience, judging objectively, I believe one would be wrong.

Sorry, I wish it were otherwise. They intend to have you and all that you are or ever will be and they will have your children and their's. That was always their plan. You have 3 choices and limited time to choose.

For those of you who are not up to speed as I noticed in one response, there are numerous resources available on the net. One may learn to manufacture almost anything, including guns and ammunition, in .PDF, .DOC, .RAR, .ZIP, and VIDEO formats, at least for now. This will soon, not be the case and you will need them if you want to be free.

It's worse than you imagine it to be and, you have been warned!

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Infringe: to commit a breach or infraction of; violate or transgress; break or weaken.

What I've always found fascinating about the second amendment is the use of the word, infringed. It's an extremely clear and precise word. That very phrase is simply not open for interpretation. Those who want to infringe upon our right to keep and bear arms don't care about the constitution and believe it's worthless.

Terrorist: a person who terrorizes or frightens others; a member of a political group aiming at the demoralization of government; an agent or partisan of a revolutionary tribunal.

A terrorist isn't necessarily a suicide bomber. Do these terrorist we call politicians believe what they are doing is right? Doesn't a suicide bomber believe that what they are doing is right; that it what will make the world better for those they leave

As a person who has a portion of their personal income, thus their labor, thus Life itself immorally and unconstitutionally confiscated by a Federal government that's now trillions of dollars in debt--the first 'reasonable' question here is “who’s paying the tab for this monumental and exorbitantly expensive exercise in stupidity?”

If the Brady Campaign can’t stop ‘gun-violence’ outside its own headquarters in D.C., and nowhere to be found is any report of the first person among the total of the BCers, Million Mom Marchers the Violence Policy Center staff or the Mayors Against Illegal Guns having ever personally 'taken a gun out of the wrong hands'-- where, praytell, is there any evidence to support the notion that some treaty enacted by U.N. thugs, dictators and despots is anything more than another feel-good, looks-like we’re doing something but accomplishing nothing waste of time, energy and money?
    There isn't.

Get the U.N. out of the U.S. and the U.S. out of the U.N.

Years ago during the Cold War, the Communist Party of the United States was seen as a great threat and was heavily infiltrated by the FBI. Years later, when the idea that CPUS could actually overthrow the government was abandoned, the FBI pulled its agents out and the party almost collapsed financially. It seems that most if not all of the "members" who were paying dues were the FBI agents.

The UN is a wierd kind of duck indeed. It is a supposedly functioning democracy who's members are overwhelmingly despots and dictators. And it derives the overwhelming majority of its funding from the USA. What, exactly are we getting in exchange? At the very least, if it isn't time for us to pull out, it is certainly past time for them move their HQ to somewhere other than New York, and time for us to stop propping them up financially. Bad enough they would be having a conference about gutting our Second Amendment. But they are having it here, and demanding that we pay for it.

History lesson. Who nominated Stevens? Who nominated Souter? Of the four justices who opposed gun rights in Heller, two of them were nominated by mainstream Republicans.

Or is Ronald Reagan a RINO?
