'Travel icon' Frommer just an anti-gun bigot

We talked yesterday about hatred for gun owners by media elites. Here's another gem of tolerance:

Travel icon Arthur Frommer says he won't be spending his tourism dollars at the Grand Canyon, or anywhere else in Arizona, because the state's laws allow people he described as "thugs" and "extremists" to openly carry firearms.

Frommer's rant is here. Interesting. When you go to his main blog page, check out the number of comments other topics generate:

20 for "snooty Abercrombie & Kent" warning about independent bus excursions on cruises, 12 for the Vatican extending its hours, 5 for "desperate discounters" throwing in perks for "repositioning cruises"...ah, here we are...667 (and counting) for "Do Guns at Political Events Disturb You? Then Consider Skipping Arizona for Now".

Draw your own conclusions.

And there's this: For someone who makes his living promoting tourism, Frommer has just cut his "go to" list significantly, that is if his "principles" have any consistency. If his objection is to legal tolerance for open carry, have I got some maps for him--or rather, OpenCarry.org has. And face it, you know anyone this much of an hysterical hoplophobe is against concealed carry, too...

Arthur apparently is a zealous devotee of the "Only Ones" theory that government workers can be trusted with guns, but anyone else is a "thug" and an "extremist," and a cause for a crippling case of the vapors. If you believe in the right to keep and bear arms, that's you and me he's insulting.

Hey, if he wants to be ignorant, prejudiced and fearful, that's his call. And if some of us "won't be spending [our] dollars" on anything put out by Frommer's Travel, that's ours.

Two truisms come to mind that Arthur's anti-gun adventure confirms: Write what you know and there's no fool like an old fool.

I'm actually a big fan of Arthur Frommer, except when he gets political. For even more perspective on Mr. Frommer, two of his other current crusades are 1) Advocating that everyone should boycott Dubai for their recent clamp-downs on foreigners, and 2) the US should drop its anti-Cuba policy, partly because it's not effective. The fact that the left-wing Cuban government has been 100 times worse than Dubai for 50 years doesn't seem to mean much to him.

Is that like a combination of the two words in the 'frothing mouth' expression?

Clearly Frommer is 'fromming' at the thought of liberty, firearms and the two combined.

Trying to get a "boycott" going, not much of an effort! Personally, I will feel safer in any State of the Union this person is not in, or the likes of him.

Like I said on digg: Love that phrase..."Murder by Gun Control!" Should we start referring to overly zealous anti gunners as murder and violent crime advocates, their policies point in that direction?

Never heard of him! Is his opinion (just like that body part we all have one of) supposed to matter to me? Should I ask the bum panhandling his opinion of AZ it might carry more weight.

The rantings of hoplophobes, lunatics, and politicians carry no weight with me.

Well, looks like I've bought my last Frommer guide. He wants to boycott Arizona? Wonder how he'd like a boycott on his travel-publishing empire.

I read the piece. He seems to be talking about bringing guns to political events, not gun rights themselves. I don't quite understand what he's trying to say, but it seems his actual point seems to have a lot of grey area. He almost seems to be more upset with antisocial behavior than gun rights, but I'm not totally sure.

Hey, I count this as a major discovery. Open carry is all we gotta do to keep the hoplophobes away? Day-umn! At last we have a way of repelling the ravening hordes of clueless Masschusetts socialists moving north and ruining New Hampshire. I gotta switch holsters.

Posted on the Frommers site twice that I saw--and deleted...

A screed about who supports Frommer. It would appear that he is closely allied with Wiley Publishing, which, per their site, is closely allied with the U.N.

He also has a variety of advertisers on his site, including Garmin.

I also liked this line: "We'll call anti-gun legislation "OSHA for criminals."

Frommer wants a boycott? Boycott him back. But not just him: all his advertisers and supporters--and recognize what fuels his extreme, ridiculous views.

MamaLiberty, I've acknowledged more than once in old articles that the push for concealed carry may have been a strategic error in many ways. But ya gotta play the cards that is dealt, not the ones you wish you had.

I've always carried concealed, but I've also usually not worried overly about being made. Unlike many states, New Hampshire does not have a duty to conceal just 'cuz you have a license. We have an open carry statute plus state preemption. Not everyone has these luxuries - PLUS there are sound tactical and even strategic reasons to carry concealed.

To me, the strongest argument AGAINST concealed carry is moral, and strongly related to the present discussion. Though hoplophobes try to avoid it, there's a very strong "free rider" effect when a measurable fraction of the population is armed. Violent criminals have to factor in the possibility of encountering an armed defender, so even the unarmed benefit. Even those bigots who decry us, which I deeply resent.

I did just that, I went to his website and I emailed every advertiser, telling them I would not purchase their products or patronize their business while they advertised on the Frommer's website. Money talks and -------- walks. Do the same and remain conscious of the advertisers and don't buy from them. Frommer can take a left and go to Vegas instead. The desert doesn't need em. Better yet go back to Kalifornia.

I run a guest ranch. I offer shooting instruction to the guests. It sure is amazing news to me that Arizona tourists are skeered of guns, because that is far from my experience.

If Frommer called for a reservation, though, I'd happily set him up at the Budget Inn on Van Buren and 4th Ave. I'd feel dirty taking money from a mental defective.

I'd like to ask Frommer if he carries a cell phone on his belt, or a pocketknife; ever swung a hammer, ran a chain saw, or anything else that could potentially be used to commit mayhem.
A tool is just that, it has no good or bad other than the will of the person carrying/using it.
Frommer and others like him, they're just tools for someone's agenda.

I can't imagine the great state of Arizona losing any tourists on this old fools word. If they don't travel to AZ on his word you don't want them there anyway. Arizona is a great gun state and always has been.
