I just finished reading another hand-wringing attack on the right to keep and bear arms over at Black Star News. It prompted me to leave a comment, which I'd like to share with you here, especially since there's no guarantee they will post it:
You really don't understand, do you? You really don't know that the states that wanted blacks to be counted as "1" instead of "3/5" were the SLAVEHOLDING STATES. That's because, with apportionment, it would give them more representation in Congress--more power--all the while holding this NONVOTING population hostage. Those opposed to slavery didn't want them counted at all for that reason.
But then, you don't understand "gun control" had its roots in racism, either, do you? I notice you never talk about the slave codes that could punish a black man for having a dog because it might attack a white man--or the post-Civil War black codes designed to put firearms beyond the economic means of freed blacks--or a key observation in Dredd Scott, that a black man simply CAN'T be a "citizen" because then he'd have the same rights as whites, including the right to keep and bear arms. Yeah, Chief Justice Taney actually wrote that. You'd know if you took the time to do a little learning before presuming yourself authoritative enough to teach.
Why not ask Roy Innis of CORE where the term "Saturday Night Special" came from? I guarantee your readers won't like it.
And now here you come telling good people the only way they can be safe is to be disarmed in the very neighborhoods where predators run rampant? Hey, everybody who thinks the police can protect you, feel free to chime right in. You can continue to listen to frustrated windbags like Milton here--just know he can't protect you either.
"The mayhem guns are causing"--what a crock. And you want to call people like me names like "gun nuts" (hey how would you feel if I called civil rights advocates "race nuts"?) and disparage the NRA? OK, here's a little test--look at their 4 million members, the most heavily armed civilian population on the planet. How much "mayhem" have their tens of millions of guns caused? Show me one NRA member who has done a drive by or a home invasion, an armed robbery...
You want to stop the madness, man up to the fact that it's individual responsibility and choice that make the true difference. Go ahead and use racism as a crutch, that you're being held down by the Man if you want, but people are waking up to the fact that excuse-making doesn't produce freedom.
And one of these days, they're going to tire of your cowardly finger-pointing and irritating yapping, and discover there are true voices of wisdom and courage in the community--men like Rev. Kenn Blanchard, "The Black Man with a Gun."
I listen to him and I listen to you, and I've gotta say, there's no comparison. Hopefully, more of your readers will discover him and discover that for themselves, and that your "speaking truth to empower" motto is little more than Orwellian sloganeering, as it's not true, and helplessness is the opposite of empowerment.

You hit the nail on the head ! Keep hammering away with the truth! The problem lies in the major cities under democratic control and the preachers and self appointed community spokesmen. The criminal issue is only paid minimal lip service while they beat the gun issue to death.Lets face it the people in the inner city have a cowardly attitude and have been brainwashed to believe the democrats really care and will protect them. Until they wake up we will always have these problems.
And on the same page is an article by an apologist for the Somali pirates.
What high class individuals.
that pretty much says everything i'd have said. well done.
Amen.
should they play censor, and I expect them to while the editorial has such claims as "spurious argument" and 2nd amdt in the same sentence here is my comment:
You claim you are an "investigative newspaper" yet an the most ignorant editorials make it through.
This is not a strange country as Milton claims. There are however plenty of strange people, the type who can quote a number like 283 million then point to a small and I mean SMALL percentage, 0.0001% of those tools involved with taking lives and 0.00004% in homicides.
Your hypocrisy forces you to ignore that drug overdoses claim more lives every year, 33,000 people in 2005 vs 30,694 firearms related deaths or that cars caused more deaths are ahead of firearms and drugs at 43,667. Funny, something meant to move people, what's the phrase you anti-rights types use..."guns are designed to kill." Perhaps they have some faulty designs out there since an object NOT designed to kill can out perform them.
Your racism, ignorance, and outright lies make me physically ill. Were I to take the same position as you and your control freak ilk people like you that I disagree with would be chained, for the greater good of course. Lucky for you there's another "spurious argument" about ignorant morons having the same rights to speak as I have.
Ah, yes, and we finally get to "guns don't kill, people do." Yes it is true. Do you know what else makes it easier for people to kill? Why damn near everything. Sticks and stones, the first tools that were used in warfare. Fire, poison (remember those drugs up there), water, rope. All those things have made it easier to do something, and the simple fact is that the human MIND has made those items into deadly killers.
Perhaps some investigation is in order instead of the ignorant racist blathering that Milton does so well. His confused mind and pathetic argument is far down the road to making it easier for those who kill to add many new notches in their belts. I for one will be damned if I'll sit by and let him to succeed.
David Codrea, you will not make any progress with Black Star News. My experience and well founded opinion is Black Star News is an extremist black racist organization, a polar opposite of the Aryan Nation.
Scattered around the web are articles of mine which discuss and describe my personal experiences at Black Star News and at The Daily Voice, experiences last year during primaries.
My goal was to discover if censorship would be imposed by publications aimed at Black America if a person did not support Barack Obama.
Although I made a point to keep my articles professional, free of controversy and factual, an editor named Malcom at Black Star News took to either removing my articles or actually changing my wording without making an editor's note about this; he falsified my words.
Inside of one week I began being subjected to personal insults, vile racial slurs then finally threats of violence and death, all of which seemed serious and I took seriously.
My sincere advice, David Codrea, is you stay away from Black Star News. My opinion is there are some participants over there, David, who will hunt you down and kill you.
A side note is I also tested The Daily Voice which is owned and operated by Keith Boykin. During private conversations, I found Boykin to be a rather nice gentleman. I helped Boykin correct some software issues with his brand new website.
Participants at The Daily Voice, at first, were acceptable, were not threatening. Yes, some personal insults, some racial slurs, but not so bad. However, over a period of six months or so, as the brand new Daily Voice was discovered by more of Black America, insults, racial slurs increased and finally threats of physical violence and death began appearing. Keith and his editors did make an effort to control this but were eventually overwhelmed by extremist black racists.
Nonetheless, I believe you will have better luck delivering your message at The Daily Voice without too much risk of violence or death. Keith Boykin, being a famous television personality, an author and seemingly a nice man, tends to avoid controversy such as unwarranted censorship.
Again, I will sincerely urge you to avoid Black Star News. With your being white and a gun rights advocate, participation at Black Star News will have both you and your family at certain risk.
To close, rather ironic I am a red skinned girl, an English professor, a firm but fair person and yet receive racial slurs and threats of violence and death from some of Black America, "some" not all.
You be careful, David Codrea; there those out in our world who will physically silence your voice, most likely, with a gun.

Okpulot Taha, thank you for your concern. But my entire message is to encourage my countrymen to defy and resist those who would disarm us. It would be disingenuous for me to ask anyone else to do that which I fear do myself.
And I'm actually kind of used to threats. I don't get that many, but over the years have had my share. None have concerned me enough to expect another man to assume my risks and stick their neck out to protect me.
In truth, those police state enablers really don't concern me anywhere near as much as others I've publicly defied, and this was just my opening salvo--I still have more to say about Milton and his small-minded little enterprise and see a great opening with that pirate story Thirdpower mentioned.
So stay tuned. And again, I do appreciate the concern and the warning. But I'm a "Molon Labe" kind'a guy, and for me, my words without a personal willingness to stand behind them and not back down would be...just words. Plus, while a firm believer in "a man's gotta know his limitations," he also needs to know his capabilities. I'm pretty OK with myself.
A Black Man with a gun is....
Equal.
One hundred and sixty years ago, Black folk lived on plantations and were kept under the thumb of their so-called "betters". Part of that was being disarmed.
Today, Black folk live in projects and inner-city neighborhoods and are kept under the thumb of their so-called "betters". You're still disarmed.
Do you really think that you're better off now than you were then?
A Black man with a gun is Equal. Never forget that. An armed Black neighborhood won't have a problem with drugs and gangs. An armed Black neighborhood won't have to suffer the police, who never seem to live in the areas they work in, treating your sons and daughters the same way they treat the criminals they are assigned to deal with.
You don't like the conditions under which you live? The trash, the drugs, the prostitution, the gangs? Arm yourselves. Worried about the reaction from City Hall and Police HQ? Don't be: there isn't a big city where the Black population doesn't outnumber the police by a large margin.
A Black man with a gun is Equal. It's long past time that the last vestiges of dependency were thrown off.
Equality or continued thralldom. What's your choice?
here we go. I appear to be a white man. I agree with all Mr. Codrea has stated and further, with what Mike VanderBoegh has stated at the site in question,(can be seen at The
War on Guns website if edited out of existence at Black Star News).
Therefore if what Taha has to say is a likely occurrence, I can be found at C.H. Sawders, 338 MC 171, Doddridge, Ar.
Let's not be timid people. I am tired of racists, of any color. My rainbow of friends seem to agree with me. Bring it, or pay attention and learn something.
David Codrea comments, "I still have more to say about Milton...."
Milton, yes, not "Malcolm" as I cite and spell incorrectly. Milton is at Black Star News. Malcolm is the web programmer for Keith Boykin.
With my being an English professor, inherently I fiercely object to unreasonable censorship. However, when an editor like Milton actually changes my written words and does not add an editorial note, this truly angers me.
David concludes, "I do appreciate the concern and the warning. But I'm a "Molon Labe" kind'a guy...."
Ah ha! Paternal instinct versus maternal instinct raise their comical heads! A father will stand and fight, a mother will gather her kids and flee. Usually the father dies but there are plenty of willing sperm donors for a surviving mother.
Just kidding!
I subscribe to your Molon Labe philosophy but my maternal instinct has me view circumstances differently than you and most men.
Be sure with my being a red skinned rodeo riding Okie farm girl, I have given my fair share of black eyes to many boys, quite literally. However, today I am a middle aged soccer mom, a lifestyle which has drastically changed my younger wild ways.
I should have pinched our girl's head off the day she was born.
You boys out there, do not discount women. We will not confront you directly, but a year later we will sneak up behind you then beat you severely about your heads and shoulders with a kitchen spatula.
For trivia, during my life I have only needed to brandish a hand gun once. A drunk man accosted me, in our own front yard, late at night. I believe he intended to rape me. A Beretta handgun pointed at his ugly mug persuaded him to promptly leave.
Without hesitation, I would have blown his fool head clean off. I am thankful I did not need to do this.
I shoot 99% at 15 yards with my Beretta, with half being head shots. Not bad for a girl, yes?
However, I prefer crotch shots.

Death threats for urging people to follow the Constitution and reclaim their rights? Who do these threateners think they are, government employees?
The third leg of the tripod of racism and gun control is ... corruption. How many of the Mayors Against illegal Guns are under indictment? The most recent member, mayor Dwight Clinton Jones of Richmond, Va., founded a nonprofit organization which the IRS says owes $27,000 in employee income tax withholdings since 2004. Style Weekly of Richmond reports this in their April 22 edition. The big Richmond newspaper reports back real estate taxes owed to the city by its new mayor as well. He's a pastor. Isn't that special?
If history means nothing to Black Star, maybe dollars out of their community and into bigwigs' pockets will.
BEAUTIFUL educational attempts, Mr. Codrea. Anyone offended by them would be offended by anything, or nothing.
My response:
What sort of moron forgets the essential lessons of the history of his people within one generation? Answer: liberal American Jews and liberal African-Americans. Do you really think that the Holocaust would have been stopped by MORE disarmament on the part of European Jews? Do you really think that the Deacons for Defense and Justice could have faced off the Klan and the racist local and state law enforcement that they controlled with frigging tulips in their hands singing "Kum-by-yah?"
Or, more to the point, why would anyone who lives in a community plagued by armed, godless thugs unilaterally disarm? That goes for all ghettoes, including the Warsaw one, or Tulsa in 1921. Ever hear of Rosewood, Florida? What the hell good would it have done if those people had been MORE DISARMED than they were? More innocent black bodies is all.
Gun control in this country BEGAN as a racist idea and remains today fundamentally racist in its thrust. Do you think that the narrow-ass white liberal Thomas Dodd would have had the guts to craft the Gun Control Act of 1968 (or the Dixiecrats the motivation to vote for it) if they hadn't been frightened by the example of the Deacons and the pictures of the Panthers with carbines and shotguns on the state house steps? White liberalism IS racist for all of their mouthing because they don't believe that black folks are capable of taking care of themselves. They have sold the notion that the only true way for black folks to act is to labor on the Democrat Party's plantation and to nurture at the government tit. And, to do what they're told by their "elder statesmen."
THIS is why they always push gun control -- because individual citizens with guns are not under their control, black or white. Thomas Dodd was a LIBERAL! He had no particular love for black folks. Indeed, if his philosophical descendants get their way and talk y'll into unilateral disarmament, what's to prevent the Klan or the neoNazis from engaging in new ethnic cleansing? Do you think THEY will disarm?
Or, not to put too fine a point on it, the godless criminals on your own community, who are currently killing off African Americans at a rate the Klan of the 60s, as they look up from the flames of Hell, can only admire. The gangsta culture has put them in the deep shade when it comes to killing black folks, and who's fault is that? Mr. Charlie Honky?
The answer to that question is, in part, yes. Mr. LIBERAL Charlie Honky sold this bunch of crap to you and you're eating it with relish. The other part of the answer to the question of whose fault it is can be found in the mirror. Only an idiot would forget his history and trade it in for a mess of lies.
Trust me on this, for I have been fighting their kind all my life, whenever the sheethead Kluxers and the green-teeth neoNazis read a story about some inner city "gun buy back" or read a column by Leonard Pitts or some other black columnist about how "we have to confiscate all those evil assault rifles," they laugh their racist asses off, for the same reason they support the abortion of black babies. It's all the same to them and every self-created victim now is just one less they'll have to lynch when their time comes round again.
And you think it won't? That it can't? Weimar Germany was the most open and liberal society that country, or even Europe, had ever seen. Then came the Nazis. Anyone who thinks that tyranny can't come to this country is whistling past the graveyard of history.
What do you do with all your gun regisdtration/confiscation schemes when the GOVERNMENT becomes your enemy? The Deacons knew the answer to that.
Let me tell you the one indisputable lesson of the 20th Century. Tyrannies are not deterred by anything less than guns in the hands of their would-be victims.
To believe anything else is begging to be somebody's victim. The Deacons knew this, and they were just working class veterans, the same kind of veteran that white liberal cartoonists make fun of these days.
Why don't you wake up and smell the sh-t you're peddling?

I do believe Dr. Rice the woman of color who was the US Sectary of State made it clear that her father used guns to protect himself and his family against bigots that had a thing of attacking black families.
There is nothing worse than a trader a person or persons that will destroy their own people by holding them down to advance themselves. A sell out is a sell out and to think they do it for a few coins of silver.
