CBS News and U.S. News have posted a stunning, disturbing opinion piece by Bonnie Erbe. Here's who she is, for those of you who may not be familiar with her work:

Erbe takes her lead from a statement made by Playwright Janet Langhart Cohen on CNN following the Holocaust Museum shooting:
She said something must be done about ridding the Internet and the public dialogue of hate speech. I agree.
And what is that "something"?
Isn't it time we started rounding up promoters of hate before they kill?
I don't know, Bonnie, is it? Who is going to determine who the haters are? And without a Department of PreCrime, who can determine when one of them will kill? Who is going to be doing the round up? Are we going to maybe house them at Gitmo now that we're clearing that place out? Any trials planned in your little fantasy?
And what do you suggest "we" do if some decide to resist the "round ups"?
Why is it your "Final Solution"...I mean, "Last Roundup" to oppose neo-Nazism sounds just like something the Nazis would do, Bonnie?
I saw this coming when I wrote "Holocaust Museum shooting must not be exploited to erode liberty" the other day, citing a blogger on a popular left-wing site and expressing concern that it represented the tip of an iceberg. As we can see, it hasn't taken long for mainstream "authorized journalists" to take up the cause.
I note the chilling Ms. Erbe is affiliated with the Thomas Jefferson Street blog. I can't help but wonder what she'd have to say about an extreme insurrectionist promulgating violent views like this:
the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. it is it's natural manure.
If Ms. Erbe and those like her get their wish, we will find out how deep that tree's roots go, how wide its branches spread.
So who am I siding with, the haters?
From where I sit, that designation belongs to Ms. Erbe. And as far a neo-Nazis go, I can't help but notice many of her political sympathies appear both national and socialist in scope.
My friend and colleague Mike Vanderboegh has sized things up well in his open letter to Erbe:
You wish to sweep away those that you find "hateful." Have you ever considered that there are many who find your ideas "hateful?"
Most of the Founders understood that you should never pass a law that you wouldn't be willing to see enforced upon you by your own worst enemy. (John Adams didn't, but then he and his party were swept from power by the reaction to the Alien and Sedition Acts.) If you really believe what you wrote, and worse, get what you ask for, the resulting armed resistance to such a tyrannical proposal would sweep away the safe, mythical cocoon within which you seem to live.
And if you think that tyranny and civil war cannot come to this country, as divided ideologically and morally as we presently are, you are whistling past the graveyard of history.
A government that would do what Bonnie Erbe demands is the very reason Thomas Jefferson wrote:
That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it...
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

Tomorrow, barring any current events that might push it to a back burner, I'll explore the limits of the First Amendment, what you'd have to do to abuse it to the point where others have a right to intervene. Contrary to common wisdom, you can yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater.

Its hard to fathom someone like this erbe advocating civial war in the U.S. but then again I guess left wing nuts tend to call them revolutions for the good of all.
As long as I have breath in my lungs I shall fight to protect our rights as they are, not what some POS like erbe wants me to have.
Now erbe just who is going to do the arresting of these hate speech mongers? You, I don't think so, because it comes to mind an old saying "The Alligater mouth overloading your Humming bird A_s.
True to form. Here's the deal, though. I doubt very much that there will be any immediate action by the statists to start rounding people up and shipping them off for expressing their views. These babbling idiots may not be smart enough to realize that there is plenty of legal protection for free speech, but some of their fellow travelers certainly are.
The more immediate danger, I'd say, is that the Obamunists will activate some of their "community activist" allies to do their dirty work.I've seen some of those clowns in action at banks a couple of times. Protesting "discriminatory lending practices" at the time... which of course was part of the foolishness that led to the current economic crisis.
So, don't be too surprised if you start seeing "concerned community activists" speaking out against anyone who displeases the "Men Who Would be Kings". May have already begun, in fact.
It would seem that the "definition" of hate speech is: Any speech that presents a view that is opposite of a leftist, homosexual, socialistic, or Marxist point of view. It could also be construed as any speech that promotes an originalist, constructionist, constitutional or CONVERVATIVE viewpoint. Patriotism is now also considered "hate" speech. One man's FREEDOM is another man's "hate speech"? FREE SPEECH IS FREE SPEECH, once you let the enemy define the terms IN HIS FAVOR, you may fall into his tyranny.

Bonnie Erbe's liberal bitch hypocrite credentials are long established.
Back in 1996, she foamed at the mouth about so-called "assault weapons" being "machines that were made solely and exclusively for the destruction of human life on a mass scale," while at the very same time deriding Republicans' "coining of the term 'partial birth abortion.' It is obviously not a medical term. Nor is it the vernacular... It is a phrase coined by far right abortion opponents who are using words in a graphically deceptive way... This Republican war of words is carefully orchestrated and aggressively waged not only against Democrats and the public, but against the media as well... the laziest members of which often pick it up and pass it along unchecked." You mean, like "assault weapons?" Absolute silence when this was pointed out to her.
In 2000, Erbe wrote, "On Mother's Day... a group called the Second Amendment Sisters will be taking on the Million Moms as they march AGAINST gun control. (m
... It will be fun to see what big-haired, heat-packin', Republican pro-gun Mamas look like. Shortly afterward, she derided co-host Linda Chavez on "To The Contrary" for backing the Sisters by telling her that as a 52-year-old rural gal, she had more chance of being struck by lightning than being raped. When Linda proved that this was entirely wrong, and quit the show and PBS, Erbe called her an "overgrown Catholic school girl," and suggested, "You get into therapy. Otherwise you are going to continue to be miserable and in denial the rest of your life."
She accidentally sent one complainer a letter of thanks, ending, "And didn't we hack off the right-wingers!"
It's cool to see Erbe's finally graduated to liberal lynchin' and book-burnin', but not all that surprising.

That was Julianne Malveaux, DJ, but she was on the show Erbe hosted. Erbe is a sexist anti-defense zealot who told commentator Linda Chavez she didn't need a gun because statistically, she was too old to be raped. We're dealing with a hate-filled seething loon--but one who is honored by an agenda-driven media with prominence and material rewards. That she is given a forum to promulgate her poison by a major news magazine is bad enough. That she is also allowed to do this through PBS, which is partially supported through taxing you and me, is offensive, and I intend to look into that more over the coming days to see if perhaps a ruckus is in order.
Attacks on Jews become news stories for weeks. Clearly some hate is more worthy of news coverage than others.

Correction: It was Thomas Paine who drafted the Declaration of Independence, not Thomas Jefferson.
Tom White, there is no doubt that Paine provided ideological foundations for the Declaration, but the assignment was given to Jefferson and the drafts are in his handwriting. I have seen no credible documentation to the contrary by any historian of note, who then offer cites for their research. I know certain philosophers like Galambos made this claim, and I'm familiar with the Wm. Cobbett quote that whoever wrote it, Paine was its author, but have not seen any archival evidence that Paine wrote the actual draft or that the ideas he articulated so well were unknown to others of that era. The fact that his pamphlet "Common Sense" resonated so universally, as opposed to being treated as crackpot heresy, attests to his being able to express sentiments his contemporaries intuitively were feeling.
However, I am always willing to learn. If you have some evidence to educate us with, please share it.

Who gets to decide what is hate speech? The group with the most followers! They can define hate speech any way they like (or that suits their agenda). I agree with the idea that rounding up "hate speech" people is usurping the first amendment in a most extreme way. This is why this editor's stated position is just sensational b-s to make a provocative story in a desperate attempt to sell an increasing irrelevant has-been news rag.

Mark before you start calling names you might want to see who it is that has bragged they are writing the Hate Crime Laws. The Anti Defamation League. Those people which desire plenty of law-enforcement surveillance do need to have it funded, so this information can violate plenty of agreements among people, complete with the resulting breakdown of society. This will result because law-enforcement will circulate the information which is freed from context, which has plenty of destructive potential.
Those law-enforcement in the wealthier parts of cities need weapons of mass-destruction. The wealthier parts of towns and cities need more efficient destruction of the property, which those weapons of mass destruction will make possible. A quality supply of less than lethal weapons will also be needed, with disabled people being more expensive than dead people.
