Punishment for armed self-defense still the norm in NYC and DC

"Ardent gun-bug, Gen. Curtis LeMay..."

Two letters to the editor concerning some of our more notorious citizen disarmament zones point to an ongoing outrage:

Sullivan Law Justice

I could scarcely believe my eyes when I saw this news item in one of our local newspapers. I believe it will shock anyone who has any sense of justice.

"New York. AP- A bandit entered Victor Comancho's west side grocery store Sunday night and drew a gun. Comancho whipped out his own gun, fired, and the bandit fell.

"Police identified the dead bandit as Raymond Brugueras, who had been arrested before on narcotics charges. Comancho was charged with homicide and violation of the weapons law."

Not Only In New York

The enclosed clipping is an example of a citizen defending himself when the police couldn't. (And then look what happened!)

"Washington, D.C.-James E. Weatherington, a bus driver, was held up and robbed in 1956. Since then, he has carried a gun. Last night, three teenagers rode his bus to the end of the line and then, when Weatherington was alone, attacked him. One boy looped a piece of baling wire around Weatherington's neck, and the others jumped him. Weatherington pulled a pistol from his belt and fired a shot, striking one boy in the groin. His companions dragged him from the bus and fled.

"About an hour later, the boy was brought to a hospital by his mother. Police questioned him, later arrested his companions. All were charged with assault with intent to commit robbery. Weatherington was charged with carrying a deadly weapon. Police said they approved of the results of yesterday's encounter, but had to charge him with violating the law."

That's what they get for not being "only ones"?

I said "ongoing"? Yes, these letters appeared on page 10 in the "Crossfire" section of the March 1960 issue of GUNS Magazine, now online. Regular Gun Rights Examiner readers know that every month I highlight this great website feature offered by the magazine I write the "Rights Watch" column for: They post online the corresponding issue from 50 years before.

Santayana told us "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it," and that certainly holds true for any area where the "law"—and those wretched opportunists, subversives, frauds and fools who would impose it on you—would rather see you dead than armed. Unfortunately such enclaves and such persecutions still exist in the land of the Second Amendment.

For another outrageous glimpse into the past, check out the views expressed in "Know Your Lawmakers" on page 4. Not a one of the featured poltroons had a clue, and it's not hard to see how things were allowed to degenerate legislatively in the days before a critical mass of gun owners woke up and started getting politically involved. It's ironic to realize that one of the politicians who really got it back then was a prominent liberal Democrat.

It's also a lesson for today's welfare parasite gun owners—those who do nothing but enjoy their sport, the apathetic, the lazy, the willfully ignorant, yet draw benefits from the labor of others in keeping their guns and activities "legal"...

People need to stop calling the cops, just leave the bodies lying in the street from now on. The police are NOT on our side, they have become the enemy of the people and glorified arbitrary tax collectors and kidnappers. Tell them to stay out of your neighborhoods, and if they tresspass, they will be arrested, if they resist arrest, they will get tased, or shot since they are armed. What is good for the goose is definitely good for the gander.

    RSBL,
Do you really think that advocating for people to shoot the police in their neighborhoods advances the cause of gun rights?

If the police act like criminals and are not even held accountable by anyone, then YES I do. You have a right to resist unlawful arrest and assault by a cop, he is no different than any other criminal, what, just because he wears a certain costume he is to be immune to what any other criminal would get?

Either we ALL follow the laws of the land, or NONE of us have to.

As soon as someone puts on a police uniform, they no longer have rights, they have laws and limitations. They represent the state, not the people. And to violate rights under the color of law is a greivous crime. What I am saying, since you will just twist it to sound horrible, is that our "protectors" are turning on us as the enemy, guilty until proven innocent and if I quote this right " being innocent has nothing to do with guilt"..I believe a judge said that.
Cops kill and get away with it, what I am saying is that if the people held them accountable, they would not be violating our rights anymore, cops have turned into corporate police, not protectors. They are arbitrary tax collectors and torturers by taser. They act and are treated as they are above the same laws they hang us for...you must be a cop.

Some states have laws that protect citizens who must use deadly force to defend themselves. The more gun laws that an area has, the more corrupt the government.

I also dont need to "advance" gun rights, we already have them, they are trying to infringe, if we stop backing up and drawing more lines, this wouldnt be a problem.

They cant touch gun rights without a constitutional convention, they trick you into giving up that right, because they cannot take it. The laws mean nothing if they violate the constitutional authority as the supreme law of the land, and if they try to enforce illegal laws, they are the criminals, and we have the right to resist with deadly force, because that is the same threat they have when they come to enforce said laws. I dont see you complaining about their threats of deadly force if you resist now, or that they will destroy your life if you so much as defy them or dont lick the boots.

  • RSBL 1 year ago

I am not advocating anything, I am stating your right to resist. Just because someone wears a government costume does not give them the right to remove your rights, this is the whole dam reason we have the bill of rights in the first place, to keep the governemnt from doing what they have been doing, its people like you that shy away from your responsibility as an american to resist, and to resist with gusto, to resist with your rifle in your hand is to say NO in the loudest voice available. They dont want armed citizens, they want unarmed serfs. Where does it say we need police, I dont need them, they are a burden, not any help. You cannot elevate one group above another, that would be favoritism and not in the realm of all created equal. Yet the police get treated like deities, untouchable, all powerful. You make me think of the british advocates in stories Ive read about the revolution we fought to NOT have these problems.

    @ RSBL,

Two years ago our local police department was shut down due to budget cuts and the sheriff department stepped in to replace them. Our sheriff is a huge advocate for the Second Amendment and the NRA. He actively supports Florida's CCW programs and the various Castle Doctrine laws within the state. What I'm trying to say is not all police and sheriffs are arbitrary tax collectors and kidnappers. Most still understand and respect the importance of citizen based crime deterrence.

If you cannot change the predatory culture within your local police department at the ballot box, then vote with your feet and take your tax dollars to a town where the police are still on your side.

    @Kent,

Kent, I'm all in favor of standing my ground in my home or car against any criminal threat, but going up against corrupt police is a wholly different matter.

I agree in principle with your belief of staying put and fighting to create a better system in which to live, but if you are surrounded by apathetic neighbors who aren't going to lift a finger to help create needed improvements, the odds of success are not in your favor and you'll end up squandering your limited resources needlessly.

I prefer to surround myself with other like minded people who actively work to establish and maintain their Constitutional Rights. If the sheeple wish to blindly accept living under predatory police occupation and rule, then I have no problem leaving them to their fate.

Joshua, I understand your reasoning, and I can agree, yes, there are good people in law enforcement, but they know the corruption and are now guilty by association, they wear the gang colors. They are expected to uphold unconstitutional laws, if they resist, they are out of a job. I know you arent making excuses for them, but please look at the bigger picture. We have what we called the "morality police" that they showed the Taliban having, the difference is they arent using sticks, they are using electrocution. The police by LAW are NOT bound to protect us...please look that up. They are to collect revenue, and I am sure those sheriffs collect their fair share of "revenue". This is using the color of law to rob people by using honest mistakes and non-victim crimes to extract money, or you go to jail, this is extortion, and when they dont have enough criminals, they write more laws to create more criminals. It has nothing to do with crime and punishment or safety, safety is the excuse.

Sure. But that's like arguing, "Not all mushrooms in the cans we pack are poisonous."

For every dirty cop, there are ten clean ones who know it and keep their mouths shut.

When I see a cop getting the same penalty for a crime (not just a mistake, a actual crime) as a "civilian" gets, then I may BEGIN to start feeling more generous towards them.

If you dont stand your ground and keep backing up from it, you will run out of places to back up to.
I like a jewish saying, cant remember who said it, but it still rings true, I will probly butcher it, but you will get the idea.

"If we had weapons and waited for the police (german police) and when they bust through the door and if they had weapons, the germans would have ran out of police" I cannot find that quote anywhere, I apologize for ruining it.

The real problem is they brainwash people into believing we have a democracy, because with a democracy, they can get you to vote away your rights. 51% of the people can vote to exterminate the other 49%.
We have a constitutional republic, and they cant touch the 2nd amendment without a constitutional convention, but they dont want anyone to know or think that. They cannot take our rights by force, they are trying to get your dumb neighbor to vote your rights away for you, and with all the vote rigging going on, they could do it, unless people start calling out those that try to label this a democracy, they will keep trying, and sadly alot of people are brainwashed enough to think they can do this to us. Turn off your TVs everyone, the CIA controls the MSM. They are using what they do to foreign countries by controling both sides of the debate in front of you, but not including you.

The problem is that people trying to survive an attack situation are operating in a corrupted environment. Their enemies are simultaneously the criminal attacker on one hand and the political/police environment on the other. Personally, I'll deal with the attack when being attacked, then worry about the governmental enemies later. We are in the approximate same position as the Romans were in the mid-fifth century AD. At some point, things will break down and we will all be on our own.

I'd like to know what David thinks a parasitic gun owner is. I write letters, emails, and call my (sic) elected officials on a regular basis. I sign petitions and try to cajole my friends and family to do the same. I don't hunt or participate in any shooting sports except practicing for my (and my families) defense. I don't have to money to contribute to the myriad of groups such as NRA GOA KABA et al as I have been out of work for about three years. The reason being that I was rear-ended (literally and figuratively) by an illegal alien driving with fraudulent insurance papers.

Is that enough? I don't know. But what else can I do without money? I don't plan on registering or turning over my weapons no matter what. But until they actually show up to take them it's not like I can go on the offensive. I thought it was just to gun-grab nuts who called people names? But I guess if I don't live up to david's expectations of what someone should do for the cause he's not above some name calling is he? Save your rapier wit for people who don't agree with your views!!

Sorry David, I'm a little testy because I'm sick of the name-calling. That's pretty much all the other side does. Instead of debating issues on fact and merit they just sling mud and insult people. When I saw that sentence, coming from someone who I know is on the same side as me, I guess I had a tunnel vision moment where all I could see was "parasitic gun-owners." Thank you for responding!! Keep up the good work!! P.S. Do you know of any place in Fl. looking for volunteers for our cause. It doesn't have to be Fl. if I can do some work from home. Thanks again!!

New York and Washington, D.C. uh. These two cities have laws that protect criminals. They were written by politicians who wanted to protect themselves from honest law-abiding citizens. Why anyone would want to live or work in these places is beyond me. No amount of salary is worth living where criminals are protected and honest law-abiding citizens are nothing but canon fodder. Lucky that these citizens that defended themselves and got charged, have jury nullification to get them off. It's our protection against corrupt politicians protecting themselves.

Most people can walk and chew gun at the same time. I say "most". But as the tasks get more complicated, it gets harder to do a proper job on more than one at a time.

I wonder how many patients we lose because part of the doctor's mind was occupied with avoiding potential lawsuits.

I wonder how many good cops have been lost because they hesitated while thinking how the shooting was going to be picked apart by Internal Affairs.

I wonder how many good citizens we've lost to crime because they were thinking about how the DA was going to victimize them for a second time.

We've all heard the advice to "just drag him back inside" or to make sure to call 911 just before dispatching a bad guy so the shooting would be on the tape. But it's more important to remember the old saying: "It's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6." We haven't quite decended to the point where our government prosecutes dead crime victims for trying to defend themselves. Survive first, worry later!

So why can't they just register their guns. It's pretty simple but you jackesses just want to whine because you are so damn lazy.
