Professor thanks 'four black men and a gun'

"I thought I should take a moment to mention four Americans who have made a relatively uncelebrated contribution to the freedom I cherish and enjoy," Stanford Law Professor Marcus Cole writes at PileusBlog.com. "I owe a special debt to four black men, and one gun."

Which four men? And why?

The first was his father, who, after being severely beaten in front of his children to the point of needing reconstructive surgery, bought a gun.

There were no more incidents, at least not any that I can recall, after my father exercised his Second Amendment right. It was his contribution to “non-violence” in our neighborhood.

Indeed. Read this tribute. And learn of the other influences acknowledged by Professor Cole:

  • Abolitionist Frederick Douglass, who maintained "[c]itizenship...rested upon three boxes: 'the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box.'”
  • Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who "bravely read the constitution the way it was written, with little regard for how his opinion would be attacked from both the left and the right. His opinion acknowledged that the right to bear arms was clearly one contemplated by the framers of the 'privileges or immunities' clause."
  • Otis McDonald, who pressed the recent landmark Supreme Court case and "is that black man, the fourth to whom I owe so much. As I attempt to raise my two sons to be strong, confident and secure Christian men, I am grateful that this 76-year-old grandfather fought for my right to protect them from those who might try to do them harm."

As the truism goes, slaves don't own guns. The Second Amendment is the ultimate right of all free men.

All too often we see media-crowned  "leaders" within both the black and the academic communities who reject the wisdom Marcus Cole shares with us here, and instead disparage and attack the right to keep and bear arms as both a way of obtaining  attention and maintaining their political influence. And all too often we see true leaders who reject marching in politically correct lockstep ostracized and repudiated by that faction.

So there is one other black man I would like to thank: Professor Cole, although, in truth, I look forward to the day when the color notation is considered irrelevant.

Bravo, sir. I appreciate the bravery you show, "with little regard for how [your] opinion would be attacked."

A slave is a slave regardless of color and a free man/woman is a free man/woman because he/she refuses to be a slave and once again color has nothing to do with it. When men/women are equally armed and armed well enough to resist their government if that government attempts to reduce or abolish individual rights then we are all free. When one gives up their right to bear arms they give up their other rights as well. Words are no match for a gun. Sometimes rights have to be enforced and while no one looks forward to that fact of life there are those that would take your rights in a heartbeat if they could so they could force you into slavery.

Those Hutaree militia guys still in jail?

They must be some really bad guys considering the Russian spies have already finished their "milk and cookies with Eric Holder" and been sent home.

I guess the fem gets a Playboy layout.

Lesson learned. If you think your militia might be busted by the Feds, make sure you have a knockout blonde bombshell in the bunker to sidetrack the Feds and the press while you make a break for it.

Keep your powder dry, just don't keep all of it at home.

Over time, someone added another, the soap box. The soap box may well be one of the most poweful. A scant 30 years ago, no one wanted to bring a 2nd Amendment case to SCOTUS, the mainstream legal thinking of that time was the 2nd protected the right to arms only for militia purposes, a misreading of US v Miller (intentional?) With the passage of the GCA '68 a movement began to push forward the concept of an individual right in the 2nd. It was met with a lot of resistance. But men like Prof. Eugene Volch and others began to study the issue in earnest. One work publihed was "The Embarrassing 2nd Amendment" which was followed by a slew of papers and studies. Then the AWB '94 was passed and that really lit the fires of the individual right school. Then the internet burst on scene, and the mainstream press lost its voice. Men like Mr. Codrea began to write in the new medium The soap box kept the bullet closed, at least for now.

David because of your article I’ve had an epiphany!

For a long time I’ve disliked the term “law abiding” when gun groups and gun writers refer to gun owners that have No desire to commit crimes.

David I believe gun writers should stop referring to gun owners as “law abiding” and began to refer to gun owners as “free men”

David we can use the term “free men” just like Obama uses the word “Hope” It’s a buzz word/term that resonates in people’s minds.

That’s why the powers to be in government hate the term “Obama Deception” because they’re afraid people will relate Obama and the power brokers in Washington with the word “Deception” and act accordingly

    What do you think David?

In the fine art of debate, one technique is never use your opponent's terminology. To do so lends credence to their argument. Thus, “madashell” has hit upon a key factor towards winning the freedom debate: we must stop using “their” terminology. Lose the words of the opposition and substitute more favorable and uplifting terms.

I cringe when I hear firearm enthusiasts repeat terms such as, “gun show loophole”, “reasonable gun laws”, “assault weapon”, etc. You get the idea. So, please stop using their words. It gives validation to the anti-freed mob.

Agreed. I've been using the term "peaceable".

The law is *wrong*. Enforcing it is wrong. Obeying it is wrong.

Color won't matter, except for the thousands of anti-White organizations like the National Association of Black Journalists, NAACP, Black Panthers, BET, college admissions, etc.....
