We've talked about Rep. Carolyn McCarthy's "No Fly" bill before. I've also made it the subject of my October Guns Magazine "Rights Watch" column:
Having been thwarted in 2005, she recently reintroduced H.R. 2401, the “No Fly, No Buy Act of 2009,” with the stated objective “To increase public safety and reduce the threat to domestic security by including persons who may be prevented from boarding an aircraft in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, and for other purposes.”
There's a danger that could catch citizens unawares with terrible consequences:
Author and attorney Dave Kopel noted, “Under the New McCarthyism, a prosecutor could send a gun-owner to federal prison without needing to show the person had ever committed a crime, or had taken any steps preparatory to committing a crime, but merely that the person’s name was on list compiled by a federal agent and the person had owned, used, or tried to buy a gun."

For those who prefer to read a physical magazine (and for those with older computers and/or dial-up service), the issue is available at newsstands throughout the land, and as I understand it, they also don't mind people who want to subscribe.

I'm a subscriber to GUNS mag, but I get really tired of all the "thug glorification" blurbs and articles. I just skip that garbage, but it would be great if there were a really good gun periodical that could leave all that stuff out.
Hmm, a secret list used to deny people their civil rights, no one knows who is on it, no one knows how you get on it, impossible to get your name off of it . . . if it worked for Joe McCarthy in the 50's with his commies list, why shouldn't it work for his spiritual daughter Carolyn?
Bruce, all of the people that appeared on Sen. McCarthys list WERE communists, and all of them worked in the State Dept. of the US. The reason he held the hearings was to force these communists to admit their membership, and to expose the danger to the US to the public. He produced the list, and never made any secret of it. The reason the media went nuts is because a great many of the media were in sympathy to the communist cause, aas they still are.
