Gilbert Arenas continues his one-man effort to demonstrate no judgment whatsoever when it comes to guns. He's saying taking guns from his locker was a "misguided effort to play a joke." What kind of joke one can play on others with a gun remains undefined, but you can be sure that, if it's even true, it had to be profoundly stupid.
Speaking of which, it's a tough call figuring out what's more idiotic: Arenas being so oblivious to his situation that he'd engage in a finger-shooting "skit" or NBA Commissioner David Stern acting like a hoplophobic bleater about it.
Still, when it comes to moronic reactions, it's tough to beat MSNBC's Ed Schultz, who wants Commissioner Stern to ban NBA players from owning firearms.
Here, I'll let him tell you:
Posturing that he's doing it "for the children" is the oldest trick in the anti-gunner's playbook, and allows him to act like he's coming from some moral high ground of noble concern. But Schultz lets the mask slip from his anti-gun bigotry with this:
If you want to play in our league, you can`t own firearms. We are in the image business. We`re not in the thug business.
So you can't own guns and be a basketball player without being a thug? Did you tell Karl Malone that, Ed?
[He]was recently honored by Outdoor Life magazine as one of "25 men and women who have changed the face of hunting and fishing."
"His contributions have provided access for hunters; habitat for bighorn sheep, mule deer and elk; and outdoor gear for underprivileged kids.
In addition, Malone founded the Hunts for Heroes program, which sponsors all-expenses-paid hunts for soldiers, firefighters and policemen."
Yeah, that's some bad example for kids. Why not invite him on the show and test your gun ownership = thug theory on him?
Arena's boneheadedness notwithstanding, why should everyone be judged and punished for his actions (which is essentially the outcome of "gun control")?
And here's another concern, Ed:
This season, nearly 82% of NBA players were black, increasing on last year’s 80 percent.
I thought you "progressives" were against programs that disproportionately singled out and punished minorities...? Say, you wouldn't happen to have superiority or trust issues, would you, Ed?
But let's take Ed's "logic" a step further--he's saying employers should ban employees from owning guns over what? "Visibility?" That seems ripe for contorted "progressive" application. What a surprise.
OK, how about if the networks ban all of their talking heads from owning guns? Hey, with great power comes great responsibility, right? See, I can parrot Spiderman dialog, too.
Why don't you press MSNBC to set the example, Ed? As a condition of employment there, no one who has any "visibility" with the public may own a gun. After all, you're "in the image business" (and how), and we know how much kids all look up to you.
Here's the scary part of Ed's rant:
I think it’s a sad day when we have people in a position of responsibility who can make a difference...
Why is it scary? From Politico:
North Dakota Democrats are actively pursuing liberal MSNBC talk show host Ed Schultz as a candidate to replace Sen. Byron Dorgan, who announced Tuesday he would not seek reelection.
To quote Madame Pelosi, "Are you serious?"
Can you imagine the "difference" Ed would make if he actually were "in a position of responsibility," where he could continue his obnoxious subversion of our right to keep and bear arms from the inside, making "The Ed Show" in effect "reality" TV? That would, indeed, be "a sad day."

I'm afraid I would set a bad example. I would bitch slap his silly ass. No gun, no fist, just slap him like the childish punk he is.
Bet if that happened to him enough, he would want a gun. Any bets?
Shultz should be committed to a mental health in patient facility.
Ed Schultz may be the most ignorant person I've ever heard utter a complete sentence. Has he ever heard of the U.S. Constitution? He doesn't deserve an audience based on his First Amendment rights. Why? Because he is trying to deny other citizens their Second Amendment rights. Even Steven, no?
"'North Dakota Democrats are actively pursuing liberal MSNBC talk show host Ed Schultz as a candidate to replace Sen. Byron Dorgan, who announced Tuesday he would not seek reelection.' To quote Madame Pelosi, 'Are you serious?'"
When Al Franken defines the height of the bar, "serious" is no longer even on the radar screen.
Ed, you are an idiot. A child that is raised properly and responsibly understands that you don't do what these two moron NBA players did. The players should be fined and suspended indefinetly. It wasn't the guns fault they were in the locker room. Have a little common sense.
I know whacked out people who own guns and this sick freak Shultz frightens me more than they do.
Schultz is living proof that Liberalism is a mental disease.
This talking head is a Pucking Futz...
There is no wonder why MSNBC's ratings are in the toilet
Gotta love it when the progressives' latent racism leaks out. In this instance disarm the black man when he offends one white man's sensibilities. I've long heard the word "progressive" and translated it in my thinking to "spirochete."
Typically lib diatribe, heedless of facts, emotionalized to the max and oh, yeah - toss in the usual "for the children" appeal. How does such a fool gain an audience? I'm barfing on my keyboard. Oh no! The environmental impact!
ed, you brain dead bison butt don't you realize that these guys can buy the military of most third world countries. i think you licked the frozen water pump one too many times while you were in North Dakota!
How about also including that NBA players must give up their right to a speedy trial, the right of counsel, the right to remain silent, and their right to vote. I'm sure they could come up with some other Rights that NBA players must give up in order to play in "their league".
Masses of people buy very pricey tickets to see grown men run up and down a court and then demand players conduct themselves responsibly at all times? Likewise, millions tune to Ed and therefore he expands his influence on the minds of many. Is it reasonable to expect a certain level of decorum from NBA player & radio talk show host? At some tipping point, when society is in shambles, things will sort themselves out automatically, eh? For the record, I have never, ever, EVER spent $$'s on tickets to any sporting event.. rather hike, hunt, ski, surf, mountain bike ride etc. Millions have seemingly been conditioned to watch football on Sunday's instead of taking the kids to the park, and/or themselves engage in an enjoyable activity. Brainwashing? Diabolical distraction/ entertainment to obscure evil agenda? With the way things are going south, sure seems that way.
Um, I believe the players all already have contracts. You can't go back and unilaterally add new requirements to refrain from otherwise legal behavior to their obligations under the contract.
What is it with the liberal need to punish everyone for the mistakes of a handful of IDIOTS?
If the NBA doesn't want guns in their locker rooms, let them add it to the contracts at renewal time. As far as I'm concerned they can add some strict morals and behavior clauses in their while they are at it. Then, if these over indulged man-children decide that getting paid millions to dress funny and play a game isn't worth the restrictions, they can retire and fade into obscurity. (Or become sports commentators.)
Otherwise, leave the guns alone. Or, better yet, let's talk about restricting (responsible) people's right to self defense just as soon as we talk about restricting liberal, windbag, talking-heads freedom to open their mouth and make stupid comments. Like it or not, you cant have one without the other.
Ironically Mr. Schultz is not against guns as was depicted in the article. Ed is an avid hunter and actually owns hunting property near Mott, ND.
Also ironically, Mr Schultz accidentally shot one of his own hunting dogs while hunting once.
