UPDATE-6:20 PM
I just had a very interesting phone conversation with a trusted source informing me all may not be as it appears in this case and the referenced news accounts and indictment may not fairly represent Mr. Shipley's actions. If that is so, it is important to correct the record. I will be pursuing this and will post further information as and when it becomes appropriate.
See: Is FBI agent in Mexican gun case being persecuted?
----------------------------------------------------------------
We've been following the Mexican "crime gun" story for some months, examining outright lies that have been told by those who oppose our right to keep and bear arms, parroted by a media sympathetic to that end, and exploited by those who would use the confusion to enact new restrictions. The genesis of this series was Attorney General Eric Holder using the situation as a pretext to ban semiautomatic firearms. Failing to muster the resolve to push that through (for now), the anti-gun cabal is focusing on other infringements.
We've been arguing the problem lies not with America's peaceable gun owners or with a need for burdening them with edicts, but with violent criminals--both in the drug cartels and their corrupt co-conspirators in government. Indeed, we've seen how the enforcement arm for the Gulf cartel, the Zetas, originated in the Mexican Army Special Forces.
We've seen this corruption saturate Mexican policing efforts. And we've seen how the corruption extends to "law enforcement" on this side of the border.
So why does this come as no surprise?
An F.B.I. agent in El Paso has been arrested and charged with dealing guns, some of which ended up being used in gunfights between the authorities and drug dealers in Mexico, law enforcement officials said.
A federal "Only One"?
He also bought at least 54 weapons, then sold 51 of them for more than $118,000...
[T]he government is also seeking forfeiture of 17 weapons, including two .50-caliber Barrett rifles, more than 2,800 rounds of .50-caliber ammunition, a silencer and $7,340 in cash.
Obviously there are serious violent crime problems on both sides of the border. Anyone who says the answer is to further infringe on your and my right to keep and bear arms is, at best, keeping us from addressing them.

Now here's an interesting development
Authorities in northern Mexico will give arms and training to members of an anti-crime group in a Mormon community after two local residents were killed by hitmen with ties to organized crime, residents said Friday.
Imagine that.

Apparently, Codrea believes this story somehow makes the issue of US guns flowing to Mexico go away. Assuming the allegations are true, Shipley's job title makes no difference. IOW, he was doing what many gun dealers (licensed and otherwise) are doing: making an illegal buck via Mexico's crime problem.
Captain Kidd... I think I'll call you a "ninety-percenter"... it's clear you bought it hook, line, and sinker.

"Authorities in northern Mexico will give arms and training to members of an anti-crime group in a Mormon community after two local residents were killed by hitmen with ties to organized crime, residents said Friday."
Completely understandable, especially if the leader of the "anti-crime group" goes by the name of Big Weasel...

captain kidlover somehow believes the media isn't owned by the big O and that the maxican military and police who go AWOL, desert, or are recruited leave their fed gov supplied machine guns, grenades, rockets behind when they do so.
He also believes that mexican drug cartels are likely to depend on weapons smuggled from the US across the border as opposed to the plentiful weapons actually recovered that can easily be carried with the drugs from the cartels in south america.
Failing to put 2+2 together and get 4 he continues with the personal attacks on David by completely overlooking the true origins of the guns, that is the federal government, and "only ones" who somehow have been given "more equal" protection under the law which itself violates the law.
Using cap'n kidlovers logic his mouth should be sewn shut because of the hate speech of others.
The majority, by far, of U.S. manufactured guns in Mexico were sent with the blessing of our government to their government. All the fully automatic U.S. manufactured guns arrived in Mexico through official channels approved by both governments.
Corruption in Mexico cannot be cure by disabusing me of my rights. Disabusing me of my rights cannot be accomplished without violence. So Kidd if you are as touchy/feely anti-violence as you claim, a good lesson for you and your ilk is "LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE", and I will not do anything to trespass you or anyone else. However, I will not surrender any of my rights to anyone. They have to take them and they have to survive a fight I don't, to do that.
Now, go back to you BodyBuilder magazines and I'll go check on my 7.62 nato magazines. And we won't need to do anything stupid or mean to each other.
Kiddles,
I find it absolutely hysterical that you immediately the believe the statistic that DHS handed out without any explanation, but personnaly attack David for digging deeper into the matter and blasting his findings. You are just an idiot-shill whose only defense is to contradict and ridicule. Congrats, thats two logical fallacies in one; Ad homenim and yelling "NO!NO!NO."
David's motivation for this article is clearly exposition of the broader issues. He is bringing to light what isn't being publicized and actually downplayed compared to the absured 90% statistic, the purpose of which is to let the government to gain traction on further restricting firearm owner's rights.
Stop being an idiot.
"Straight"arrow: Can you translate your comment into English? TIA.
This instance of alleged corruption by Shipley highlights the often criminal nature of the gun dealer industry.
kiddie,
1) what is a "gun dealer industry"?
2) what proof do you have that individual gun dealers, licensed by the feds and required to perform background checks through them, are engaged in criminal acts?
Quick - get Captain Crunch some more Kool-aid for his cereal.
Captain - how about actually naming those gun dealers? It appears you have knowledge of a crime.
Kidd, could you possibly learn to read and COMPREHEND English. TIA.
This case doesnt seem right.
Does Texas law require a private seller of firearms to keep a record of firearms sold?
Private Citizens have the right to sell a firearm to another private individual, so why are they going after this man.
It sounds like they have got this man on technicalities and not on actual violations.
In other words they needed a scapegoat and this man is the scapegoat.
ALL vets need to be aware of this; if you go to the VA more medical treatment youre asked 3 questions.
1) Do you feel stressed
2) Do you feel threatened
3) Do you feel like harming others
If you answer YES on any question it is reported to HLS as mental illness and you lose your 2A rights
mexico crime problem its because USA consumption of ilegal drugs.
Not quite, Mexican.
If the drug problem were treated rationally--as a medical, sociological, spiritual, mental health problem, as opposed to a criminal problem, with predictable resulting corruption prohibition guarantees with all that money and government power...
The stuff could be as cheap to make as aspirin, with attendant quality control, and a $3.00/day habit would produce nowhere near the demand to steal as one that costs a hundred times that much. And you don't see liquor companies/distributors/stores shooting at their rivals--any more.
The government doesn't want the problem to go away because of increased authority, asset forfeiture, excuse for intrusiveness and control...they're the last people who want to derail the gravy train.
Not sure how this Shipley thing became about Mexican gun problems. He sold his guns, allegedly illegally, but that seems up for debate and should play out during his day in court. But I only see 1 report of A gun ending up in Mexico. a gun that he sold to local LEO, who in turn ended up dirty. Hardly see how that puts Shipley as a source for all evil in Mexico.
