There are new developments for two stories presented here this week. The Tennessee guns in adult dining establishments veto has been overridden, and NRA is appealing the Seventh Circuit ruling upholding gun bans.
Tennessee veto override
As we discussed on Tuesday,Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen vetoed a bill that would allow concealed carry permit holders to retain their firearms in establishments that serve alcohol, reversing his campaign pledge to support the measure.
Per the Memphis Business Journal:
The state House of Representatives has overridden Gov. Bredesen’s veto of the new law that makes it legal for gun owners with carry permits to bring their guns into restaurants and other places that serve alcohol.
One thing really stood out for me in this story:
Some restaurateurs were also opposed to the bill, saying it would hurt business in an already struggling industry. Randy Rayburn, owner of Nashville's Sunset Grill, posted a sign in his window earlier this week saying “No Guns Ever.”
I'd be inclined to give Randy--and any proprietor who agrees with him, their wish. And to make sure everyone I could influence knows about it. Why would we want to patronize places that not only don't trust us or value our rights, but also put out welcome mats for those who could view such signs as invitations for risk-free predation?
Why would we pay good money to subject ourselves to that? If the industry thinks it's struggling now, let's see how places like Sunset Grill do after telling a substantial part of the population their patronage is not wanted.
Here are the votes. 69 "Ayes," 27 "Noes."
Representatives voting aye were: Barker, Bass, Bell, Bone, Borchert, Brooks H, Brooks K, Campfield, Carr, Casada, Cobb C, Cobb J, Cobb T, Coley, Curtiss, Dean, Dennis, Dunn, Eldridge, Evans, Faulkner, Ferguson, Fincher, Floyd, Ford, Fraley, Hackworth, Halford, Harrison, Hawk, Haynes, Hensley, Hill, Johnson C, Johnson P, Kelsey, Lollar, Lynn, Maddox, Maggart, Matheny, Matlock, McCord, McCormick, McDaniel, McDonald, McManus, Montgomery, Moore, Mumpower, Niceley, Odom, Ramsey, Rich, Roach, Rowland, Sargent, Shepard, Shipley, Swafford, Tidwell, Tindell, Todd, Watson, Weaver, West, Windle, Yokley, Mr. Speaker Williams -- 69.
Representatives voting no were: Armstrong, Brown, Camper, Coleman, Cooper, DeBerry J, DeBerry L, Favors, Fitzhugh, Gilmore, Hardaway, Harmon, Harwell, Jones S, Jones U, Kernell, Litz, Miller, Naifeh, Pitts, Pruitt, Richardson, Shaw, Sontany, Stewart, Towns, Turner M -- 27.
If I were a Tennessee gun owner, I'd be inclined to reward and punish accordingly.
Next up is a state Senate vote, where the measure is also expected to pass.
UPDATE: Tenn. Senate overrides so-called 'guns in bars' veto
The Tennessee Senate has voted 21-9 to override Gov. Bredesen's veto of the so-called "Guns in Bars" bill. The Tennessee House voted 69-27 Wednesday to override the veto.
The bill becomes law July 14.

NRA appeals to SCOTUS
We discussed the Seventh Circuit's loopy ruling yesterday. And no time was wasted on the appeal. From NRA-ILA:
Today, the National Rifle Association filed a petition for certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of NRA v. Chicago. The NRA strongly disagrees with yesterday's decision issued by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, holding that the Second Amendment does not apply to state and local governments.
The recent incorporation ruling by the Ninth Circuit increases the likelihood the high court will hear the appeal. That doesn't mean they have to, or that they'll rule properly if they do, of course.
The implications are huge. And yeah, I know that's an understatement.

The Senate voted for the override, as well: www.volunteertv.com/home/headlines/46916247.html
So does that mean that none of the other Amendments apply to the states also..?
Because a whole cop would be too heavy!!! Funny
David, whats the REAL story behind the ammo quantities and prices? Its not been made very clear anywhere I can find.
I don't like to take threads off topic, HI. But check out my March 11 column. I don't see a grand conspiracy as much as supply and demand coupled with limited existing production capacity and financial conditions in last quarter '08 causing canceled orders followed by the post-Obama surge that has not let up. I have my ear to the ground and have heard the theories, but have seen more spurious rumors than credible information.
I may address this again, but for now would like to keep this thread on the subject of this column.
What I'd like to see now are very carefully maintained records of police reports and firearms violations particularly regarding incidents involving ccw holders in Tennessee, say over the course of the next year. And when there is no "blood in the streets" or "drunken shootouts" let's rub the Brady crew's collective nose in the fact. We in the choir already know the probable outcome, but we have to draw a line and stop the lies that the hoplophobes keep spewing at the uninformed public. We are making great strides with Heller, and state laws, and vehicles like the Examiner columns to foster communications and understanding, but let's not let up now. If we rest on our laurels they will blind side us somehow as they have so many times before.
I'll chime in on the ammo and component situation on that later date when it comes up as I'm sure it will.
Sorry and thanks David. I will look at your older post.
