PBS host and U.S. News & World Report contributing editor Bonnie Erbe goes right into an attack dive on gun owners with an insulting headline:
"Letting Gun Nuts Pack Weapons Near Obama Is Insane"
So she starts right off with name-calling and a lie. The Secret Service has said the legally armed protesters posed no threat to the president:
"We work closely with local law enforcement to make sure that their very strict laws on gun permits are administered. These people weren't ticketed for events and wouldn't have been allowed inside and weren't in a position outside to offer a threat." The immediate area occupied by Obama on such trips is considered a federal site where weapons are not permitted, Donovan said.
That's not good enough for Erbe:
It is perfectly legal...for Arizonans to parade in public with all manner of weapons, including semiautomatic mass killing machines.
Hyperbole, Bonnie? Funny--all mine must be defective. I guess she expects us to accept such firearms magically transform from "mass killing machines" to "patrol rifles" when in the hands of government employees, that is, the "only ones" we can trust with guns?
Her hysterical insults continues:
Such public policy is tantamount to allowing children to play with live hand grenades. Disaster is certain.
Citizens are children, you see. And children need guardians.
The adults, that is, the government, must keep grown-up things away from them.
For their own good.
Regular Gun Rights Examiner readers will recall Bonnie also wants our custodians to "round up 'hate speech' promoters".
It's pretty obvious who's promoting the childish hatred here.

That's the title of a new folk/filk music album by Leslie Fish that celebrates the right to keep and bear arms:
It's time to use the Bardic power of song to help the pro-rights side of the battle.
The band features a Celtic rock musician, a "Banjo Geek," various musicians, singers, a flutist and even a barbershop quartet, and performs numbers such as "They Were Having A Sale At the Gun Store", "We Did It To Ourselves", "Me and My 30-06"...
The cover art is by Oleg Volk, the brilliant photographer whose work so often graces these columns.
You can order the album from Random Factors.

"Disaster is certain."
Boy, where to begin, just with that one alone?
Perhaps: "Gee, Bonnie, disaster looks like past and present to me, with the peaceable under continual attack from the polypragmatoi..."
Or, more politely: "Say, Bonnie, do you realize the irony of calling everyone who doesn't believe as you do, paranoid?"
But I think I'll settle on this one for now: "Bonnie, if you want to ensure disaster, by all means keep squeezing the peaceable, instead of leaving them alone as they ask. Back 'em up against the wall. Ridicule, misrepresent and marginalize them. Bring every coercive power of the state--that seems to be your preferred armed gang--against them so that they are forced to live life YOUR way.
"Keep squeezin', Bonnie. Squeeze long enough, hard enough, and you just may get your disaster."
I always taught that 'Breath, Relax, Squeeze' had everything to do with basic marksmanship...funny how every time she breathes she squeezes...no wonder these volleys of insults can only hit the inside of the barn while standing in the barn...
These fanatic-baiting creatures of delusion are struggling with staying on message, much less staying on target...maybe they should take the Eddy Eagle course...for beginners.
Who cares what Bonnie Erbe says? She's a Tokyo Rose/Hanoi Jane and the only people who agree with her aren't the ones whose opinion matters, anyway.
I don't know why we get all upset when the enemy propagandists call us names and say bad things about us. I mean, I don't see THEM getting upset when we call them out for what they are. They just ignore us.
Perhaps we should just ignore them, too, and carry on pressing on for the Cause of Liberty.
When I walk to my truck every morning to go to work, I don't pay any attention to the bugs chirping at me on my way. But of course, if one were to be so uncouth as to actually get in my face, then I also have no qualms about swatting them.
And by the way, I am not criticizing this blog, per se. I am just saying...
One small difference, YankeeRebel - bugs don't vote or tote guns for the state.
Just saying... :)
If this is PBS, where is the pro-gun side? After all, aren't "gun nuts" part of "the public" in Public Broadcasting? Isn't there an oversight or watchdog organization to deal with this kind of bigotry?
Hot damn, Leslie finally finished it, that album has been in production forever. Thanks for the tip, David.
As for Bonnie Erbe, all you gotta do is look at the circulation figures for US News & World Report to see just how many folks bother listening to her. I wouldn't be surprised at all to find out that David has more regular readers than she does. That said, I have a real simple answer for Bonnie Erbe.
Molon Labe.
Ya know Bruce, that brings up a VERY interesting point. The last poll I saw on the subject said that 73% of the public was in favor of concealed carry, and every other poll that touches on guns seems to show a similar rock-solid majority of at least weakly pro-gun citizens. Ought to be possible to bring just a little pressure to bear on how their money is being spent, doncha think?
I found this group by following a link from MSN. I was urprised to see the list of links for information about gun rights heavily dominated by our side, instead of the anti-gun attitude we see so often in the news industry.
I have said for a long time that if we could just get the liberals in politcs to listen to their fellow liberals in the universities, that would go a long way toward winning the fight. Maybe they have learned to read.
We should not have to have a permit for something that protects us from evil. Why should the law maintain that the just, the innocent, the honest, lawabiding American have to be scrutinized & penalized for that! For something that was already decided before all of us were ever born. Anyone and I mean anyone that try's to take away an honest American citizen's freedom consitutionaly is Anti-American and should be held in jail for a civil rights violation.
A Believer in the
2nd Amendment
YankeeRebel, you shouldn't insult Tokyo Rose by comparing her to Bonnie Erbe. The US citizen Tokyo Roses were offered a choice of broadcasting or serving in a comfort battalion. What's Bonnie's excuse?
I figure she's Stupid, insane, or evil.

Presuming this to be the event of reference, information available indicates the President was giving a speech at the 110th VFW National Convention in Phoenix on 17 August.
[Speech as prepared for delivery and other highlights available on the VFW dot Org website. Well worth the read.]
Since doing something other than acting as a community-organizing front man for the shadow (now semi-shadow) governments Marxist / Socialist agenda is indeed unusual, no surprise the event was erroneously described as a presidential rally.
Taking the author at her word, if armed, law-abiding, 'Rights-respecting, American Citizens appearing in public is indeed horrifying and ridiculous, any reasonable and caring person would be compelled to suggest it to be in her own best self interest to promptly seek competent mental health counseling.
Bonnie who?
This Bonnie Lady sounds like an idot. I bet she has no clue how to use a weapon. Alot of people like her thinks guns kill people. Well she needs to wake up and smell the coffe. People kill people. It is our god given right to protect ourselves. Anybody that doesn't know anything about weapons needs to keep there mouth shut.
The left hates gun owners because they know that an armed citizenry is a blockade on the path to the left's version of utopia--i.e., totalitarian socialism, with them in charge of beating the proletarian peasants for fun and profit.
Kevin; If she keeps squeezing she may defecate her head.Maybe she'll flush it by accident.
Yea, these masterbaiters (they went to school to be trained in how to cut and use bait) seem hell bent on causing another civil war. Well, if they do, they should be the first to go. In fact all the axis of idiots need purging (of their excrement). One of them, it is claimed, is dying of brain cancer. Thot you needed a brain to get that! oh well.
Maybe the presence of union thugs and left-wing radicals has prompted these citizens to arm themselves at these rallies? I know I wouldn't feel safe at these rallies without a gun with the likes of ACORN, ELF, Teamsters, the AFL-CIO, etc. present. In my experience the left are the violent ones. So far not one shot fired or window broken by us crazy, gun-toting, religion clinging, right-wingers.
Well, if Bonnies so concerned about people walking around with guns in places she doesnt want them to be, why doesnt she just go out and take their guns from 'em?
Thats what Id do if I saw a child playing with a live hand grenade, but Id give em something else to play with, you know, them bein a kid and all.
Now that I think about children playing with things they shouldnt, danger, disaster and all that, it just dawned on me wed all be further ahead to take the pens away from irresponsible legislators acting worse than little kids and give em live grenades to play with.
( probably get a few cases pretty cheap from those drug dealers on the border. )
In my book, one man carrying or wearing a firearm who aint a government agent, simply exercising his rights and not violating the rights of any other person has to be whatcha call construed into thinking his firearm is a symbol of protest.
To do that youd also have to know its government who keeps refusing to deal with the real criminals, enacting more 'gun control laws' that only affect the law abiding and are constantly threatening the honest citizens with gun bans.
Now if I saw a hundred men mustered up with muskets on their shoulders standing behind a boiling pot of tar with a mound of feathers beside it, and other people holding pitchforks and torches, wearing Dont Tread On Me shirts and waving Three Percenter flags, Id say that had all the makings of protest done the good old-fashioned way.
In new-age Libspeak, thatd be called sending a message.
David the Bonnie Erbes of the world see themselves as Elitist.
They dont care about the people or the country just as long as they are in charge.
We need to stop pussy footing around with these traitors and start acting like the boss.
I dont care whos in power we need to demand the repeal of ALL gun control laws.
Theres a lot of anger in the country right now and we need to use it to our benefit.
I believe we need to make a specific call for the repeal of gun control; this act will plant the seed of repeal in the minds of the people.
Think Repeal, Demand Repeal!
when the media say anything its most likely a lie ,they think the american public is stuppid and listens to what there saying ,you my get grandma to hear but the rest know whats happening here the media is trying as hard as the obamo nation to take away your rights .They wouldnt like it if you took the right to freedom of speech now would they? pepole like her should be held responceable for there action.
Hold that thought, Jerry. The laws are on the books to do exactly that, but for it to be most effective we're going to need to establish incorporation. Even then, it would be REALLY difficult to win a case against a newsie expressing their opinion.
The best way to punish THEM is to avoid their advertisers, and write both the network and those advertisers to let them know you're doing so specifically because of their odious advocacy of the deprivation of civil rights under color of law. Enough of those letters start showing up, and advertisers will pull their ads just to avoid the controversy, even if they disagree with you. That can have detrimental effects of the career of a media sort, though sadly it can also enhance their martyr status with the other hoplophobes. But the pro-RKBA movement has proven that they can make a boycott bite hard on more than one occasion - just ask Bank of America, Dell, K-Mart, and many others.
It will never end. Not until each and every person/group that beleives they are the sovereign rulers of this country are brought to their knees. Make them remember who put them there. This country has become too soft, sissyfied. Instead of a will of iron, we now wear collars. Those of us who actually KNOW the way this country should be run are lagging behind on what we should have been doing A LONG LONG LONG time ago. It will take time and effort to accomplish, but it will be done.
On another note. I like taking my "killing machines" out behind my house and "kill" some paper targets. You know, just to see how much mayhem I can create, because I'm a gun nut. You know what Mrs. Bonnie, why don't you drink your glass of lactose free soy milk and your whole grain muffin and crawl back in your closet till all of this is over. Leave journalism to the REAL journalists. You know, the kind of people that report REAL news based of fact, not bias rhetoric full of hate and lies.
We won't give up the fight!
A vehicle is a far more effective weapon for multiple-homicide than a firearm. There isn't a snowballs chance in hell you could harm someone inside an armored vehicle with small arms fire (AR-15), but you hit that thing with a semi going 80 and no one is going to walk away from that.
Where is the righteous effort to remove civilian rights to own and drive a vehicle? After all, vehicular homicide (especially DUI/DWI) accounts for FAR more killings in the US than any other means, including firearms.
Miss Erbe, if you need Government to protect you at all times and you fear any civilian capable of causing physical harm - maybe you should check into a padded room somewhere and let the rest of us live our lives.
After all, Police Officers are civilians with badges. To think anything else is pure ignorance.
There's a scene in Lord of the Rings; didn't make it into the movies. Describes the state of mind of an awful lot of Americans right now I suspect. Sam gently corrects the others speculations about what Frodo is thinking, right before Boromir's death and the breaking of the Fellowship.
(...)"But he's *afraid*. Now it's come to the point, he's just plain terrified. That's what his trouble is. Of course he's had a bit of schooling, so to speak - we all have - since we left home (...) But he's still too frightened to start. And he isn't worrying about us either: whether we'll go along with him or no. He knows we mean to. That's another thing that's bothering him. If he screws himself up to go, he'll want to go alone. Mark my words! We're going to have trouble when he comes back. For he'll screw himself up all right, as sure as his names's Baggins." (JRRT, FoTR p 454)
Substitute America for Frodo. Many see the abyss yawning and are FAR too sane to want to go there.
