Armed self-defense news stories have two things in common

There is no shortage of armed defense stories in the headlines. While many such accounts go unreported (particularly the ones where no shots are fired, and especially when those defending against attacks may find themselves in violation of state or municipal anti-gun edicts), it's instructive for pro-gun advocates to be aware of reported incidents so that we can bring them to the attention of others.

Here are just a few.

From Tulsa World "Crime Watch":

As the intruder forced the tenants into the bathroom, the man asked to retrieve a blanket as a ruse to collect a pistol, Bilyeu said. The man later fired a single shot through the closed door, apparently hitting the intruder in the shoulder.

From Click On Detroit:

The homeowner, who does not want his identity revealed, told police that he was woken up by the men, and one of the robbers was armed.

The homeowner, who is in his 30s, struggled with the gunman and shots were fired, police said. The homeowner returned fire, fatally shooting the robber, police said.

From The Commercial Appeal, Memphis:

Two would-be robbers forgot to ask their victim a key question:

Do you have a gun and know how to use it?

From the South Florida Sun-Sentinel:

Clerks told police that a man armed with a semiautomatic handgun entered the store and tried to rob them. One of the clerks hid behind the counter and the man fired at him. Another clerk took a weapon and shot back at the robber, police said.

The robber left the scene and the clerks called 911. Police said they found Pinkney face down and unresponsive a few blocks away from the store, clutching a handgun in his right hand. No one at the store was injured.

From WFTV.com, Orlando:

Clermont police investigators say they believe a man suspected of murdering a repairman during a home invasion late last year was killed while trying to rob another home.

There are plenty more recent accounts I could draw from, but the point is made.

So what two things do these stories have in common?

The first is obvious--peaceable armed citizens defended themselves from violent predators.

The second cannot be emphasized strongly enough: If the gungrabbers had their way, none of them would have been able to, and we would be reading very different headlines.

Trigger Sports LIVE! again...

Host James B. Towle is back from his travels and will be hosting a new program today, including another segment with yours truly.

He tells me he wants to talk about the jaywalking/cop-punching-a-girl incident that happened a few weeks back in Seattle.

What does that have to do with guns? Nothing directly, but it is an indicator of a social divide where disrespect for the law collides with a forceful response from civil authority--and that opens the door to a much broader discussion that includes the implications for those of us who have to deal with both.

The show starts at Noon PST.

    Hey Dave,

I read the hyper linked article, watched the video, and noted in the article text, that these two sad sack teenagers are nothing less than young THUGS.

The cop was doing his level best to NOT escalate the situation: you can watch the man's face through the video and it is NOT until he is physically accosted that he finally resorts to ratcheting up the physicality: punching the young THUGETTE.

The whole thing looks staged by the blacks who were surrounding that officer: the idiot shooting the video sounds like he needs his butt kicked as well, considering his mindless repetition of "Are you serious?"

Cops are between a rock and a hard place these days: they've almost been stripped of any protection from the Idiot Political Hierarchy at the top of most PDs and SOs, the ACLU is always there, then La Raza, the Urban League, and every idiot with a camera and a hatred for police.

Things need to change in favor of the cops....otherwise? Fewer felons will be booked.

I think the cop could have used better judgement and used his mace to subdue the woman. Physical confrontation is a losing proposition in the long run. the only thing the cop may be guilty of is bad judgment. As for Americans defending themselves people that is another whole issue. No one has the right to tell me that just because they chose to gamble with their lives by not resisting that I have to do the same. i have a right to defend myself and my property not to mention my family. No coward politican is going to tell me I have to plead for my life with a crook or hand over everything because they assume I should have insurance to recoup my losses. Let the coward politician grovel for his life and give up his property without a fight. But then when you sell out your pride, integrity, and honor for public office to become a lackey for the money brokers I guess you would resent any American brave enough to stand up and resist where you would not. It is worse when the crook loses.

Well, JR, I guess that explains why so many cops are killing unarmed and unresisting people almost every day. Do take some time to read the "only ones" file at David's blog, War on Guns. You might have to change your mind on this.

    Kent and Mama,

I know there are bad cops, unlike the two of you, I believe most cops are good people and there are only a few 10%-15% bad or borderline.

I'd also suggest that the next time you two are in dire need of help, accident, sickness, or incapacitated and needing help, call your local whomever you trust instead of a cop....I'm sure they'll drop whatever they're doing and come right on over to help you.

    Cheers.

Gunz Gunz Gunz, There is a huge difference between defending your life and trying to apprehend a criminal. If it is possible for a cop to apprehend a criminal without physical confrontation, I expect no less. If apprehension is not possible without physical confrontation, then so be it. However, sometimes cops go overboard and on these occasions, it is important that they be appropriately punished for it. For example, shooting an unarmed man, who is CLEARLY not a threat, is not appropriate and it happens all to often. Beating a man to the brink of death and sometimes beyond is another such example of going overboard. You can't tell me that a man who has been beaten so badly that he is about to die is still a threat. There is no man above the law and that includes the law himself.

I have no problem with cops, I like cops, I wish there was a cop for every person on the planet, however, they should be bound to the same laws as everyone else and that includes the consequences.

JR, if only 10% of cops who were "bad" why don't the other 90% kick them out instead of protecting them no matter what evil they do?

Gungrabbers are usually also criminal coddlers. They are also usually protected by armed servants. I believe that "gungrabbing" is directly proportional to the degree of "corruption" present in a jurisdiction.

The police will eventually "belong" to them. Many do already. More will follow because that's the way it has to be in order for the Marxist to win. They are the fingers and hands of tyrants and always have been when they forget who they serve. In America that's supposed to be the people and Constitution. The count is 0&2 in many places. Some places their already out but taking extra turns because the umpire hasn't kicked him out of the park yet.

JR- If I'm in dire need of help, the police would be the *last* ones I'd consider calling.

If it's a health emergency, or a fire, I would need appropriate help, not goons with badges, tazers, and a "god complex". And if it is a "crime" emergency, I would probably be arrested for not waiting around for the cops to file a report on my murder. No thanks. I don't needs cops. And neither do you.

There is no situation so bad that it can't be made immeasurably worse by involving a cop.

JRB, I already avoid calling the police in any and all situations. I have lived a long time and been everywhere in this country, I have yet to witness the presence of a cop doing anything but worsen whatever situation they intrude upon.

Gordon already answered your other fallacy.

Hello SArrow, Gordon, Yaba, and Kent,

You know, you folks remind me of those who believe that both death and taxes are ALL bad!!!!!

    Guess what, they're not!

Sometimes death is a gift to those lingering with severe terminal illnesses, and taxes go to do many good things, including EMT's who save lives, firefighters who save lives, and YES, cops who saves lives.

You folks are literally delusional with your ALL or NOTHING proposition about cops.

I yearn for the days when cops were Peace Officers rather than Law Enforcement Officers!

I yearn also for the days that Penny Candy still existed, there were no cell phones, there was no 24 hour News Cycle, and that Cable TV/Satellite TV didn't exist!!!!!!!

I still remember when pay phone calls cost a dime, and those same phones ACCEPTED calls!

'History marches on' as it were and NONE of the above are coming this way again.

Times have changed and not for the better.

Wise up and try to come back to reality.

    Cheers.
