Anti-Gun OSHA nominee Michaels approved by Senate committee

Last week, I issued another warning about David Michaels, President Obama's pick to head the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, pointing to a WorldNetDaily story about Second Amendment advocates worried about appointing an anti-gun "czar"  to head the powerful agency.

From OMB Watch:

The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee met this morning...to vote on the nomination of David Michaels to serve as head of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)...

The committee then approved by voice vote the nomination of David Michaels. Committee Republicans Tom Coburn (OK) and Richard Burr (NC) requested they be recorded as “no” votes. Their opposition could portend further difficulty when the nomination reaches the floor.

Of note:

The HELP Committee voted on Michaels despite failing to hold a confirmation hearing.

So much for new openness and transparency in government.

DC SCOTUS Examiner Hans Bader notes this is a departure from past practice:

The vote occurred with no discussion, and no hearing was even held on his nomination, although hearings have consistently been held on nominees in the past, even for far less controversial picks.

So the fix was in. Republicans Tom Coburn (OK) and Richard Burr (NC) were the two "No" votes.

You can watch what happened for yourself at the HELP Committee Hearings and Executive Sessions web page, beginning at approximately 116:50.

Gee, they sure blew through that quickly. That's some concern our "public servants" just showed for those of us who do have concerns.

Next up will be a vote in the full Senate, and I'll post again when I know the date. I urge concerned gun owners to contact your senators and register your objections. I don't know that it will do any good, but at least you'll know you did what you could.

UPDATE: Here are the committee members, just in case you'd like to make your displeasure known, particularly to the compliant RIN...uh...Republicans:

Democrats by Rank: Tom Harkin (IA), Christopher Dodd (CT), Barbara A. Mikulski (MD), Jeff Bingaman (NM), Patty Murray (WA), Jack Reed (RI), Bernard Sanders (I) (VT) , Sherrod Brown (OH), Robert P. Casey, Jr. (PA), Kay Hagan (NC), Jeff Merkley (OR), Al Franken (MN), Michael Bennet (CO)

Republicans by Rank: Michael B. Enzi (WY), Judd Gregg (NH), Lamar Alexander (TN), Richard Burr (NC),  Johnny Isakson (GA), John McCain (AZ) , Orrin G. Hatch (UT), Lisa Murkowski (AK), Tom Coburn, M.D. (OK), Pat Roberts (KS)

I wonder if this will affect anyone's gun organization ratings?

There's no need to change the 2A. The same result can be achieved by simply ignoring it!

It won't do any good to contact my senators, one of them is on the committee and the other always votes the daemoncrap party line!
