An insurance policy that increases risk

Dunkin, happy to see you disarmed

The Chi-Town Political Machine is flexing its gunhating muscles once more. The latest in your face harassment of Illinois' "law-abiding" gun owners comes from Representative Kenneth Dunkin:

House Bill 687...would force all of those individuals to obtain a $1 million liability insurance policy. This policy would cover any damages that take place from the use of a firearm owned by the individual.

The bill also authorizes the Department of the State Police to revoke and seize the identification card from any firearm owner that does not supply proof of the liability coverage to the Department.

So he's got you! If you abide by the state's restrictive firearms laws and this passes, you'll either need to be able to pony up for coverage, or lose the means to defend yourself and your loved ones in your own home. If you can't afford it, too bad.

But gee, you'd think with all those restrictive firearms laws, including being one of only two states with no provision for concealed carry, that Illinois would be the most peaceful of places--particularly in cities like Chicago, where you can't even own a handgun unless you've been grandfathered in for decades (or you're one of the political elites).

You'd think.

And, of course, none of the worthies actually causing all the violence Rep. Dunkin postures he's concerned about are "legally" in possession of handguns, have FOID cards or will get insurance. But somehow, by putting extra burdens on everyone who is not responsible, Chi-Town will magically transform into the Sarah Brady Paradise we've all been expecting it to be.

So according to this...this guardian of freedom, public safety will be enhanced by making it more difficult for good citizens to defend themselves. That and by turning them into "gun criminals" if they get fed up with trying to comply and just start keeping and bearing arms as free men and women have a right to do...

You can contact Rep. Dunkin here. I'm not even going to ask you to be polite. I don't intend to be.

Dangerous ID

I'd mentioned in a previous post that Gun Owners of Nevada is mobilizing against so-called "Real ID." If you have any information about the current progress of its implementation, please contact GONV.

Two quick updates

We'd talked about the Colorado high school girl suspended for having drill team props. She's waiting to find out if she'll be expelled.

The Wisconsin teacher who posted a picture on Facebook where she was aiming a rifle has returned to the classroom.

How people who would make an issue out of either of these cases can be qualified to teach anybody anything is beyond me.

We, the people of Illinois, will be marching on Springfield, IL on March 11, 2009 to express our dissatisfaction with such laws.

This is our 3rd annual Gun Owners Lobby Day. We had 1200 law-abiding gun owners fill the capitol building in 2007 (each taking time off work and traveling on their own dime). In 2008 2500 of us marched down Capitol Avenue. This year our plan is to double again.

Last year Senate President Emil Jones (now retired) cancelled committee meetings so he and his cronies could flee the building.

In prior years, disgraced and thankfully former Governor Blagojevich dodged meeting with a contingent of female gun owners seeking to meet briefly with him with regards to their lack of means to defend themselves in IL. What will Quinn do?

To add to MS's comment: press coverage for the IL event was almost nonexistent. Get a small mob bussed in by by Rev. Mike "Snuffy" Pfleger or Jesse Jackson and it's all over TV and newspapers, but let gun owners demonstrate and you'd never know it if you rely on "mainstream" media.

How many ties to the insurance racket does this guy have? What kind of cash does he stand to personally make from forcing this through?

As for the media coverage. Youtube, google video, Heck, hire someone to produce something, you have cable access that you can get it on? This is the age of the internet, not dying MSM. Everyone there takes a video camera, upload dozens, hundreds, thousand of clips showing the crowd. Call radio stations from the rally. Burn DVDs of the footage and leave them sitting around. Rent out library meeting rooms and have screenings all over the place to demonstrate to people that the media is lying by omission. Get a nice big projector and sit outside the "high value" targets projecting the video onto the side of buildings.

Print flyers and pay to have them included in the newspapers, they're hurting for cash, might take you up on that one. Hell, send a DVD to Glenn Beck or other potentially friendly media sources. Leave DVDs at colleges. Hell, try to get in to council meetings and play it, whatever you can. If you have 1200+ people doing that it'll get some exposure.

Embrace whatever media we have access to.

We've got to start thinking outside the "poor me, the guy who were "fluffing" Obama won't cover this" Put a spin on it, say, the "1200 child gun owners march" or something, take your kids explain to them that they only say certain things, nothing that can be twisted or misrepresented. Call the news and tell them a spontaneous rally for (insert liberal cause here) has broken out, video tape them when they arrive as proof they don't cover things such as this, get in their face about it if they try to leave without covering it.

I've gotten way off track here on this. I guess that's because I'm not in the least bit surprised by anti-freedom creeps from thugago.

This is a case of two birds and one stone.
The insurance company will put this information in the system that insurance companies share data with. It would be reasonable to believe that once someone does this and they have personal health care and children. The insurance company that offers health care may raise their rates or even drop them because of children and guns in the same household. I'm sure this has already happened and if so it needs to become public information.
Not too long ago a gun store in Boise Idaho wanted to copy my CWL and Driver Lic. I refused and the .22 I wanted was put back on the shelf. I questioned the corp office of this gun store and was told they give this information to their insurance company. I'm sure they make this information ready to LE as well.
You bet the insurance companies see and smell money with an insurance tax on firearm ownership.

Another thing that just crossed my mind. Ever notice all the freedom hating Marxist love to have their pictures taking with the American flag?
Frankly, those pictures need to be entered as evidence at their treason trials. Showing a willingness and knowing better because they know what the American people see the flag as being.

Can't get away with banning guns? Then ban gun owners.

Only some of us are not going to play that game...

More accidents and deaths happen in the kitchen. Guess we'll need a stove liability and carving knife liability policy, too. And while we're on it. The food in the fridge is helping make Americans fat, so we'd better protect ourselves w/ an icebox policy, too. And bathtubs should be outright banned b/c of slip and fall accidents.....

Michelle, no problem with what you said, but the thing is, the legislators who would pass legislation like this don't care about what hurts you, your family, or others. They only care about what has the potential to hurt them, should they press too far. Hence the control legislation under whatever guise. It is not gun control legislation it is simply control legislation.

I understand it's an insult to call a black person an "Uncle Tom." Dunkin is even worse -- he's a modern day Simon Legree. He's a massa in the superior position, gleefully suppressing your rights just to see you squirm, and all because he just doesn't like you.

If bills like this are pased by idiots like you, you can be assured of one thing....the "people" of this country will ensure immediate multiple job openings in any level of goverment where ever retardation like this is found.

I, [name], do solemnly [swear or affirm] that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. [So help me God.]

So when did this stop meaning anything?

I think a good measure of the laziness of the people is how stupid our representatives are.

The odds are significantly higher that you will injure or kill someone with a motor vehicle than with a handgun, rifle, or shotgun, yet one million dollar personal liability policies are not required to operate a motor vehicle in Illinois.

Does someone have an illogical, inappriate agaenda here?

I thought I had seen enough or all of the 'over the top, crazy, totally irresponsible people but Dunkin takes the 'out of touch with the people award'...do you think for one second the criminals are going to listen to this horsefeathers??? No, you are not being responsible, or ethical or even smart - only full of BS - do you think a gun walks in by itself and shoots someone? No, its the criminal - not the law abiding citizen whom many are sportsman and true Americans. Please resign so another more competent and savvy person with good sense and leadership can take over.
