No, it's not a typo, it's our ongoing response. The full meaning of citizen authority over officials in every generation must not be repealed, but revealed to the American People, the true sovereign in America. It was declared that we are the sovereign in America, and that our sovereignty be backed by lethal force always. It was declared that we have the monopoly on force, from handing just powers of government bodies to citizen oversight of police and military to citizen arrest. The People delegate what we wish, but reserve all authority ourselves. The Second Amendment was written to be impervious to due process such as political sway or majority short of another amendment, and the truth of this is given testimony by the very bold act of moving for its repeal.
This new campaign is to repeal not just another law, but to repeal one of our civil rights in our Bill Of Rights. This affects every American in that we may lose our authority (and right) to instruct our officials, and have to live with their instructing us. This is the real experience of Socialism. You lose rights, and gain nothing. Officials can get rich on crisis by brokering solution after solution sold – sold – to the People. We think we're consenting, but we're actually lucky just to be notified.
When Congress arbitrarily assumes authority over our banks and dictates far beyond its authority how and what is done, we are crossing the threshold into socialism. We're even moving toward dropping U.S. Currency. As Churchill said (paraphrased) socialism is not the equal distribution of success and prosperity, it is the equal distribution of misery. Europe ought to know. They were sold the very same product and service, but took delivery of misery. Equal misery. They are trying to tell us all how dangerous this road really is.
Revealing the Second Amendment, on the other hand, is essential to the independence of the individual and of the home in 2009. The idea is that all Americans need to be much, much more independent of our public servants, not at their mercy. Whether you're single or married, young or old, gay or straight, you're affected by how we are governed no longer by our consent. Liberals who think big government is some arm of their own sense of social justice will find out as Europe has found out that things don't quite work out that way – they work out the way the officials want it to work out. The earliest warning signs are how the liberals in America are puzzled by the political change of direction. Even they are surprised.
Alright, John, what is the connection between the armed citizen and the banking scandals and worse to come?
An America that doesn't fight for its rights and does not prevail simply telegraphs to predators just what we will tolerate. If the most vociferous defenders of freedom cannot prevail, then the rest of the nation is easy prey. March 21, 2007, Former Ambassador to The United Nations, John Bolton summed it all up when he said that weakness is provocative. Predators look for signals of opportunity. Some create those opportunities by creating crisis. Taking guns will create plenty of crises, alright. You can't get the guns off the street by taking them from taxpayers, but you sure can frighten a lot of people with increasing violence.
Formula: Political Predators, in order to feast, have to overcome the reality that they were never needed to begin with and paint the illusion that they are needed. This is true of a free country; demagogues are simply not needed. Crisis changes conditions so the predators seem to be needed. ("Government is the only solution.") This is the appraisal in American terms. The appraisal in the terms of German Philosophers who wrote of this is that the people need guidance. Uh-huh. People who resist that sort of guidance as a matter of personal dignity or safety are then painted as isolationist, anti-social and off the grid. How to handle objection also explained in the German Philosopher models; artificial enemies. The Militia Movement is the latest example of how to divide people.
Meanwhile, America has only two successes against over-reach lately; Dubai Ports and Amnesty (2007). Not counting D.C. v. Heller, the rest we're losing, because too many officials are emboldened by how they can defy the will of the people, how they can walk all over gun rights and silence some of America's most vociferous advocates of freedom for all.
Gun rights have to win in order for all other rights to be respected and win. Promoting hate for a so-called Militia Movement is to divide America from its greatest allies, and to substitute lies about United States History and contemporary, lasting authority within every citizen. It is to sell America a rotten product, socialism, by way of convincing the people it's even needed. It's not.
The connection of the armed citizen to every single crisis in America is all about whether we will continue to instruct our officials, or whether they will be instructing us. If they can walk all over the rights of 80 million adult taxpayers, the rest ought to be easy.
Gun control was never about guns, safety or crime, it's all about power, abuse of power.
Legally, all power rests with us. Or does it? Taking guns will not only say otherwise, it will prove otherwise on so many different levels.

Thank you. If you keep hitting those nails so squarely on their heads, you are going to run out of nails.

Thanks, ec Roberts. I have plenty of nails, but what a columnist can always use is more readers. Spread the word!

Gun control is about public safety. The equation is simple. The more guns on the street the more possibility for gun death and violence.
Nobody wants to revoke the second amendment. Indeed, most Democrats are scared to death of the NRA. It is the NRA and the gun lobby that have abused their power and put decent Americans at risk.
We need more gun control, not less.
As I read this article I had to take notice to John's comment, "The Second Amendment was written to be impervious to due process such as political sway or majority short of another amendment," I have to say that when I read the preamble to the Bill of Rights, it clearly states that to make any law to the contrary is out of the reach of government and the people. It is a prohibition on Government to change it in the slightest degree nor can this right be changed by the people. Arms are a means to defend you life. There cannot be another Amendment that would supersede this right to defend your life with arms, the best means available to us at this time.
The Bill of Rights is based on God given unalienable rights which means we have these rights whether it is written or not and they cannot be changed. They do not depend on government for their existence. Any of our Representatives who attempt to take away these rights in any form should be run out of office.
Portland Progressive Examiner probably supports mayor nichols' "executive order" overriding state law to protect his armed criminal friends, by attempting to disarm law abiding citizens that have state recognized permits.
