Senate Bill 239, which recently passed the Ohio Senate 23-10, has stalled until after the summer recess thanks to a procedural maneuver in the House to stop a vote.
Representative Danny Bubp had intended to add the language from SB 239 to another bill as an amendment but Speaker Armond Budish called a vote on the bill before the amendment could be offered. Bubp, one of the primary supporters of HB 203, a similar measure introduced in the House, predicted the amendment would have passed had it been added.
"It would have passed, no doubt in my mind," Bubp said. "If someone goes into a restaurant and gets hurt because they can't defend themselves, I'm going to be the first to say we should have done this."
Sen. David Goodman was one of the few Senators who voted against the measure and believes it will lead to violence despite the fact that Restaurant Carry is legal in 42 states, including every state surrounding Ohio.
"I don't want somebody sitting next to me to pull out their gun because they've had one weekend of training and start shooting away," he said. "Suddenly that robbery becomes a shootout and people get killed."
Proponents counter that this situation has not occurred in those other states so would not happen here. The academic debate will continue as we await the Fall session to take up the legislation once again.

I'd like to ask Senator Goodman if he'd feel the same way if he suddenly found himself revisiting history in a cafeteria in Killeen, Texas.
With the hipe going on with Goodman, he needs to wake and smell the coffie and get with the times, I resent the fact that he thinks all people only have a weekend course, I am ex-military and have had extensive training in handling firearms, I am also a CCW holder of my choosing becouse the criminals have no limits, and they do not who they hurt or where, as a CCW holder you are aware of when to or not to use a firearmmin self defense, but how would he feel when leaving a resturant and was held up, shot or killed becouse he choose not to defend him self.
Why do our elected officials continue to handcuff law abidding citizens who have CCW's! WHY? When was the last time a CCW holder robbed a bank,or carjacked,or did a drive by shooting????
Our society has become to liberal , tolerant and full of excuses! WHY.. the economy or economic earnings " because I have to work 2 jobs to survive as a single parent of 3..4.5. children", social structure" I cant get ahead because......" and education deprived people " I cant make the kids go ...I cant watch these kids 24/7.... " These theives of our tax dollars and oxygen continue to have more rights and protection! YET we tax paying, hardworking law abidding citzens have to jump through hoops to protect ourselves ,family and friends!
I avoid doing business as much as possible with any establishment posting no gun signs !!!!
HOWS YOUR HOPE AND CHANGE?!
It's time for the American people to wake up and vote out these people who think they know what's best for us.
