Ohio has joined with several other states, including Montana and Tennessee, in asserting independence from federal gun laws with the introduction of House Bill 315. This bill, sponsored by Representatives Morgan and Martin, would make all guns manufactured wholly within the state of Ohio exempt from federal gun regulations provided sales are within state boundaries.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives has claimed that they have the authority through the right to regulate interstate commerce because even exclusive intrastate sales of guns have an effect on gun sales nationwide.
With two states already having passed similar bills, and many more being considered, this will not be an issue that can be ignored much longer and will likely head for the courts as the issue of states rights vs federal authority are ironed out.
HB 315 OHIO FIREARMS (Morgan, Martin) To provide that ammunition, firearms, and firearm accessories that are manufactured and remain in Ohio are not subject to federal laws and regulations derived under Congress' authority to regulate interstate commerce and to require the words "Made in Ohio" be stamped on a central metallic part of any firearm manufactured and sold in Ohio.

Yay! Another finger in the eye of the feral, er, federal leviathan.
Anything that makes the BATFE angry can't be all bad.....
You guys ever clean your guns while their loaded? Try it sometime.
NotAGunNut, you seem to think there's something wrong with states insisting that the federal government back up and do their (admittedly vital) work within the limits set by the document that defines this nation? Why?
As a Jewess in the US, I can tell you after reading that bill - that it DOES NOT apply to shotguns! They made a technical error - see the Exemptions section on the number of projectiles per trigger pull!
NotAGunNut needs to realize there are three spellings for his word. They're all different and there is a proper use for each of their spellings. Good Night.
More nonsense! Can someone please put a stop to this?
The power to "regulate interstate commerce" is the power to keep NY and PA from ganging up on MD and DE, --NOT-- to micro-manage all commerce that involves crossing a state border.
That's what OH, MT, and the others should be doing: telling the fedgov: "Stop telling our people what they can sell and where".
I hope they don't stop at guns, start fighting back against ALL of the overreaching fed crap!
If states were to pass a law saying only guns made inside the state could be sold in the state, and lets say all 57 states did this there would be no fed issue. Think of the jobs that would create, as opposed to the BS spewed forth from the current crop of corrupts BSers in DC.
Anyway, is the pet troll an October thing?
Does anybody know which manufacturers are in Ohio? I'd be very interested in patronizing them.
Got something to say?
