Guns in restaurants policy proves itself in Tennessee

An article recently appeared in The Tennessean reporting on that state's experience one month after the passage of legislation allowing those citizens with concealed carry licenses to bring their firearms with them into restaurants that serve alcohol provided they do not drink.

After Tennessee passed the law, it was challenged and upheld on court. Opponents of the bill predicted mayhem.

"We apparently are going to have 225,000 vigilantes shooting in bars," said David Smith, one of the attorneys for the opposition.

Of course, nothing of the sort actually occurred. The same thing happens every time a piece of pro-gun legislation starts gaining momentum and looks like it might pass. The Brady Campaign and their ilk fire up the propaganda machine and start predicting gun battles in the street and mass hysteria. Each time they cry wolf, nothing happens.

Lawful gun owners are not the problem, and criminals aren't worried about breaking a law prohibiting guns in a place they intend to break the law by robbing anyway. That's common sense, not the lies the gun grabbers try to pawn off on the public.

Ohio is now one of the very few states that have no provision for gun rights in restaurants that serve alcohol. There is a bill under consideration that could change all of that. If it starts moving forward this fall, expect to see the same lies here. Just don't believe them.

I hope very much this bill passes. My wife and I like to go out to Red lobster and other resturants every now and them but I hate doing it being disarmed. On a side note we don't drink when we do go out.

SCOTUS ruled that under the Fifth Amendment, self incrimination, criminals were not required to register guns. Yet some think that good citizens should be deprived gun rights.

Law abiding gun owners who carry do not need to be prohibited from carrying ANYWHERE. All the shootings and massacres committed are done by criminals who need to be removed from society. Government just needs to enforce the laws regarding the criminal use of firearms. All the "No Guns" signs have not, nor will they ever prevent a criminal from disregarding them and committing an offense.

Unlike most, I have no problem with someone drinking and carrying. I have always maintained that if one cannot drink and maintain proper decorum, then he/she shouldn't drink. I know, that leaves the issue in the hands of the individual to do the right thing. Isn't that what liberty is about?

If one cannot be trusted, better to find out early rather than late. If everybody really believed this crap about not drinking and carrying, explain why there are no laws against driving a vehicle to and from a place that serves alcohol.

The hypocrisy should be plain for all to see.

    More guns equals less crime.

I hope this bill does pass as I also would love to be able to conceal carry at my favorite restaurants. However, I do believe that the sheep owners will still be scared into posting their gunbuster signs and our rights will still be violated.

How *exactly* has this bill "proven itself"? It hasn't even been put into effect yet. Most of the restaurants in Nashville (at least) are going to ban guns (I think the figure is about 75% estimated right now).

If this law were about "public safety", they wouldn't have made restaurants post gun ban signs. They would have made restaurants post "guns allowed here" signs.
