Fiction can be fun, but I find the reference section a little more enlightening.
-Ace Ventura, Pet Detective
"Alice Schroeder, author of “The Snowball: Warren Buffett and the Business of Life” and a former managing director at Morgan Stanley, is a Bloomberg News columnist. The opinions expressed are her own." And they are wrong.
Schroeder wrote in her recent article Arming Goldman With Pistols Against Public: Alice Schroeder that a Goldman Sachs banker told a friend of hers that "senior Goldman people have loaded up on firearms and are now equipped to defend themselves if there is a populist uprising against the bank. " She ran with the story despite no evidence to support it. Even if true, which seems unlikely as pointed out by Janet Tavakoli in The Huffington Post and Marla Singer in The Zero Hedge, Schroeder gets a lot of things wrong in her article.
"Common sense tells you a handgun is probably not even all that useful."
I'm sure the millions of police officers, security guards, soldiers, and lawfully armed citizens sure feel stupid now after carrying around their useless handguns all of these years. Every criminal ever shot or driven off by one of them must surely have been thwarted by something else.
"By the time you pull the pistol out of your wife’s jewelry safe, find the ammunition, and load your weapon, Fifi the Pomeranian has already been taken hostage and the gun won’t do you any good."
Maybe, except that anyone with an ounce of sense keeps their firearm already loaded. There are many examples of robberies or home invasions being stopped by an armed citizen.
"Concealed gun permits are almost impossible for ordinary citizens to obtain in New York or nearby states."
New York maybe, but not New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island or Vermont all of which are "shall issue" states. Even Connecticut is fairly easy to get after jumping through a few hoops.
"Surely, though, this man [Goldman Sachs Chief Executive Officer Lloyd Blankfein] who can afford to surround himself with a private army of security guards isn’t sleeping with the key to a gun safe under his pillow. The thought is just too bizarre to be true."
Maybe he is, maybe he isn't; but it isn't bizarre that a person who has security guards would still choose to take responsibility for his own safety, especially since all those security guards are carrying those useless handguns.
Schroeder may or may not have a story when it comes to Goldman Sachs. She would have been well advised to do a little research before running it. Even if her gossip is correct, her facts about self-defense are faulty and her obvious bias against guns has clouded her perception of reality.

Thanks for the due diligence. Apparently antis cant be trusted to write ANYTHING factual...
massachusetts is not exactly a "may-issue" state, even though the state law says that issue is discretionary that means issue is up to the town, city, county, whatever -- the issuing authority.
most massachusetts issuing authorities are reported to be "shall-issue" from the residents who have gone and gotten their license. i have seen a map of this. i'm not talking about the FID, or with restrictions, or any of that. they will give you their high-capacity, all-lawful-purposes concealed-carry license, same as anywhere else. i can testify to this for my home town. i paid the exorbitant (unconstitutional?) $100 fee.
i would love if someone could find that map. you can plainly see on it that functionally, MA is almost entirely shall-issue. if there's any "discretion" going on, i assure you it is entirely unwritten, political privilege. i can testify to that, too.
Daniel what Im hearing is that the Bankers are in fact arming themselves and taking steps to assure their safety.
Since I cant give you hard core evidence I guess you can say its all hear-say, but that doesnt make the bases of the article untrue.
As far as the article is concerned its obvious Ms Alice is uninformed and has an anti-gun bias but again my info says the Elite are taking steps to protect themselves.
Im not trying or intending to be confrontational here but my question to you is why do you think its not true that Goldman employees are arming themselves?
Your article only points out the dribble of an antigun bias were the info Im getting is from sources that have a history of credibility.
Again not being confrontational here but these people meaning Elite have a history of hypocrisy thats monumental. If they were buying guns out the rear end it wouldnt surprise me at all.
She was trying to be funny with the truth; lighten were all gonna die anyway.
Unless I'm far off, Vermont and Alaska are the only two states that do not require a permit to carry a concealed weapon-its your right.
Oddly, this was true in Ohio for most of my lifetime as well-the law was written "if a prudent man should go armed", then "he" could do so without violation of the law. Specifically mentioned was a businessman making cash drops.(here we assume "she" was also allowed-it was a nineteenth century law) I used to carry a copy of a report of the fine citizens recently released from prison as a "prudence" for my firearm. Thank goodness "gun-rights" activists and the NRA have made the whole thing official, and include the nice fee and fingerprinting(and all those nice new felony charges).Good work.. I praise them in old German every time they call me for money....and then I ask them for 45 bucks.
You have a position on this Daniel?
Mike, the "affirmative defenses" under the old law required going to court and proving that you had "prudence" for being armed. That costs far, far more than a CHL and there was no guarantee, at all, of a positive outcome.
Under the circumstances I would have to agree that in their cases it just might be "prudent". Same reason Hitler had an entire army as his bodyguard, you perform asexual rape (or the other kind, either, as Goldberg would say "rape-rape)
on a people without some of them wanting justice.
Got something to say?
