'Not without a fight': A documentary on guns gets it right

Independent film-maker Max Lemus interviewed gun rights activists for documentary, “Not without a fight,” and asks critical questions: “If not you, then who? If not now, then when?”

Director Max Lemus today released his documentary on guns and the gun rights movement. It is entitled “Not Without a Fight,” and is available for purchase at:
 http://notwithoutafight.net/download.html

Unlike Michael Moore’s “Bowling for Columbine,” which was a propaganda piece for gun control, Lemus looks at the gun rights movement through the eyes of gun rights activists. Moreover, he asks them fundamental questions, such as “What does the Second Amendment mean to you?” and “What motivates you to fight at all costs to preserve the Second Amendment?” and “What do you have to say to people who tell you ‘it can’t happen here’?”

Says Lemus’ web site:

“Welcome to the making of ‘Not without a fight,’ a documentary of the men and women who fight to preserve our Second Amendment right.”

Describing the film’s goals, Lemus says:

“I am shooting the documentary so that it will accomplish two things:

  1. “Dispel inaccuracies and introduce gun rights supporters as the regular folk that I know them to be.
  2. “As people share their personal journeys, I hope that they become like a blue print for others who want to get involved but don't know how or where to start. Not just for gun rights but for all issues that affect the nation.”

In fact, Max drove from New Mexico in a multi-week odyssey to Texas, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky (three times), Minnesota, St. Louis (for the Gun Rights Policy Conference), Washington, DC, Virginia (twice), and North Carolina.

Among the many people he interviewed were Jeff Knox of the Firearms Coalition (started by his father, former NRA Vice President, and my friend, the late Neal Knox); Skip Coryell and the organizers of the Second Amendment March, to be held next April; the Reverend Kenneth Blanchard, author of Black Man With a Gun; John Pierce of opencarry.org; organizers for Students for Concealed Carry on Campus; and examiner.com Gun Rghts Examiners, including David Codrea, Howard Nemerov, and Paul Valone, author of this piece and president of Grass Roots North Carolina.

Equally interesting was who Max chose not to interview: Representatives of the NRA. Speaking with him, he understood that although gun control organizations dismiss the gun rights movement as either “the gun lobby” or “the NRA,” the reality is that gun rights advocates comprise a truly grass roots movement, quite often running organizations from dining room tables.

A naturalized citizen who emigrated from Honduras to the U.S. as a child, Lemus appreciates the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution more than most American-born citizens. The film-maker’s perspective is depicted by a quip from the blog by which he documented his journey:

“A gun is just a tool; the Second Amendment is not about a gun to me. It is a guarantee that I have the right to use the best possible tool to build the best possible home for my family.”

Below is a trailer for the film and an excerpt Max has posted of his interview with me, in which I tell him about an experience in my youth which led me to where I now am. But first, I will leave you with a quip from his blog which, I hope, will motivate you and scores like you to fight for your rights. Stay tuned for updates on release of the film.

“I hope this project is a testament to every Second Amendment supporter that no matter how inexperienced you are you can make a difference. You can change the overall perception that many Americans believe freedom loving Second Amendment supporters are like.

“Just remember: If not you, then who? If not now, then when?"

Too bad he didn't come out west. There are so many of us here who truly understand that our right to defend ourselves predates the constitution and the 2nd amendment by many thousands of years.

This is what the tyrants need to understand:

The Doctrine of the Three Percent.
    We will not disarm.

    You cannot convince us.

    You cannot intimidate us.

You can try to kill us, if you think you can.

    But remember, we'll shoot back.

And we are not going away.

    Your move.

Let's see. 100 to 120 million gun owners in the USA times 3% gives you 100 to 120 thousand potential "Beltway Snipers". I bet that would draw some attention. Wonder how many cops/ military it would take to hunt them all down? What sort of police state would we have left if/when the government was successful? Would the police/military even try?. Remember, many of "them" would also be in that 3%. Would foreign troops need to be brought in? How would the 97% of the other gun owners react to that? Might be a good idea not to go there in the first place.

Columbine was a failed bombing attempt perpetrated by two deranged youths who laughed at petty school shooters, bragged about dwarfing the carnage in the Oklahoma City bombing and inflicting the most deaths in U.S. history.
30 exploded devices at Columbine High School. 46 unexploded devices at the school. 12 explosive devices including components for a car bomb in one of the perps vehicles. 1 unexploded device in the other perps vehicle. Total of 76 explosive devices found at the school, two diversionary devices. 13 in their cars and 8 more in their homes.
They took guns to shoot fleeing victims.
Their plan fell apart when the two 20lb. propane tank bombs they planted in the school cafeteria failed to detonate.
