The fantasy of campaign finance reform

After the Supreme Court ruled that campaign finance laws infringed on First Amendment speech protections, lawmakers and “reform advocacy groups” clamored for a new law before the 2010 elections to protect democracy.

We are NOT a democray! Democracy is mob rule.

Marinelle: Oxford English Dictionary defines democracy as “Government by the people; a form of government in which the power resides in the people and is exercised by them either directly or by means of elected representatives…” This is a facet, but not an all-inclusive description, of our way of government.

You were looking for a misleading reference to “Our Democracy” which isn’t here. But this isn’t the place to discuss a republican form of government.

As for mob rule, my research indicates we are indeed under mob rule: corrupt politicians who say one thing while doing another, and their wealthy sponsors.

So let’s focus on the message here and get it out: campaign finance reform, like all “reforms” promoted by politicians, is just a scam to lull us into a false sense of security that they are “doing something” for us, when they are really doing it for their mob.

A prediction that has apparently proven itself in reverse:

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. - Thomas Jefferson

It takes impressive rhetorical skills to argue that letting Wall Street and China dump money into our political process somehow helps the country. Congratulations on this feat of intellectual dishonesty!

Jon: It takes impressive denial skills and attachment to your own rhetoric to choose blindness under the pretense of moral superiority. Congrats yourself.
