Senator Glenn Hegar

Austin, Texas--Today is a great day in American history! The United States Supreme Court affirmed today what a vast majority of Texans and the American public have long known.

The next step is for Texas to address and pass open carry. Texas is only one SIX states that do not allow some form of open carry. Get busy Senator Hegar and introduce that bill and make sure that we Texans have the meaning of the Second Amendment on our hips.

There is no cause for celebration. The very fact that anyone, any agency, any court took over 200 years to affirm what the founders and intelligent American have always known is a sad commentary. Think about this, everybody is somehow happy that now, more than two hundred years later by an opinion of the narrowest margins just at this moment do we really believe the right to keep arms is actually a right. You will note, the decision did not affirm the right to bear arms. Does that mean we must wait another two hundred years for that right to be legitimized? Are we really happy that government appointed judges have the power to delegitimize the constitution?

That is what we face, for if the Second only becomes a real right based only on the very belated acknowledgement of the founders intent, and remember the Second has only been partially recognized by the court, then they certainly have the power to withdraw their approval. Ergo, called a right, it has been "privileggized"

You don't have that much of a problem in Texas, as it is a "shall issue" state, and usually it's not hard to get the permit. Open carry and Vermont-style concealed carry are good things to pursue, but this isn't Chicago.

McDonald is an important decision, as it does confirm that the 2A protects an individual right to firearms, but, like Heller, it is an extremely narrow interpretation, leaving room for all kinds of draconian laws that fall just short of an outright ban, that harass would-be gun owners to the point where they give up trying. Mayor Daley has vowed outright defiance of the decision right up to but not including a total ban.

So, McDonald is important, but don't blow it out of proportion. We still have a long way to go before "bear" and "shall not be infringed" are recognized as parts of the 2A.

I agree with Frank Crittenden with this addition: A LICENSED CONCEALED CARRY IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Think of it this way, a person who is poor but inherrits a handgun cannot carry that gun either concealed (because they cannot afford the license and training fees) or openly because it is illegal. The open carry prohibition makes little sense. The same person who would go to jail for an unloaded .22 caliber single shot pistol would be perfectly legal carrying a 7.62 x 39 AK47 with a 30 round magazine fully loaded on their shoulder. IT MAKES NO SENSE AND IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL! Texas needs unlicensed concealed and open carry for handguns!

I am glad to see that people understand how Heller and McDonald were merely small steps along the way. They each placed a brick in the wall protecting the Second Amendment, but they were each one BRICK. A 5-4 decision on both is nothing to celebrate. VOTE! Speak up. Teach others about the civil right of self-defense.

I know this sounds bad, but only to sissies. The very best way to teach the value of the right of self-defense is to slap them silly and forbid them to resist. I guarantee you, every single one of them will find themselves defending themselves in absolute contradiction and repudiation of their stated beliefs.

Those who beat their swords into plowshares will be oppressed by those who don't.
How many people have to die in public ala Luby's restaurant in Killeen before the :goody two shoes" realize
that when the bad guy (outlaw who makes his own rules) knows he is the only guy in the room with a gun, lots of folks die..
Had he walked into that same restaurant seeing a few folks with sidearms, how many of those families would still have their loved ones.
Point is here that the bad guys don't care what laws are on the books, they will carry guns to persue thir agendas regardless.
