Rumors of ammunition ban: true or false?
For buyers of firearms ammunition, the story has been bleak lately. Newly-stocked ammunition is bought out within hours. Distributors are unable to fill retailers’ orders. At a recent Texas gun show, suppliers arrived with three semi-trailers full of ammunition, which was bought out within hours. With such persistent supply issues, rumors find fertile ground.

Yeah, would whoever is emptying the shelves of .38 Special leave some behind so I can practice with my self defense gun!
Ammo is out there, you just have to be creative in finding a source. Obviously, your easily available places in town (like Wal-Mart) will be out of stock, but a "Police supply" store, open to non-Officers, which carries duty gear but also happens to have ammo may just have that ammo or magazine that you need.
Be creative, look around online. The ammo is out there, you just have to be more creative than most people and find it. ;)
"This is a demographic shift that politicians cannot ignore, since reelection is often their first priority." I would say reelection is ALWAYS a politician's first priority.
I noticed low supplies when I shopped at Academy this week. I don't buy often, since I usually buy in bricks but I'm also not stockpiling. I think the "ammo ban" scare is akin the Y2K hysteria: swirling rumor and conjecture.
