The General Assembly passed two major gun related bills toward the end of the session, one on the evening of the very last day. Both bills are now sitting on Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue's desk awaiting a signature or veto.
SB 308 repeals Georgia's 140 year old public gathering law and replaces it with a more easily understandable, and shorter, list of places off limits.
SB 291 would decriminalize the carry of firearms in Georgia airports (like 40 other states) with clear language, make licensing renewals easier for persons holding a valid license, and prohibit government seizure of firearms during a time of declared emergency, as the federal government and several states, including California, have recently done.
So what can you do?
Are you within an hour's drive of Atlanta? If so, then please stop by the Capitol. When you enter the Capitol Building on the west side main entrance, the Governor's office is directly on your left. Stop in for a visit and ask the Governor to sign both bills. Assuming you do not get to see him in person, leave a message. Something like the following will work:
Hello, I am "so and so," and I voted for Governor Perdue. I wanted to let him know that I would very much like him to sign SB 308 into law. I would also like him to sign SB 291. These bills are extremely important to me. Thank you.
It really is that easy.
Then make sure you follow up by mailing a handwritten letter, email, and telephone. Then ask all of your friends and family to do the same.
The Honorable Sonny Perdue
State Capitol
Atlanta, Georgia 30334
Phone: 404-656-1776
Fax: 404-657-7332
Please be aware that many organizations are asking their members to urge the Governor to veto these bills, so there is a lot of pressure on the Governor to veto these bills. Please take the time to make your voice be heard in favor of liberty. Ask the Governor to sign both bills into law.

Repeal PG!? As Madea might say, "Hell to the Yeah! Halleluryer!"
Say...once PG is repealed, can RTC-Georgia be far behind? Once again, Hell to the Yeah!
The road is not complete at this point. We must all follow this advice and make sure Governor Perdue knows where each of us stand on this issue. We have come a long way with this bill and it has been hard fought all the way. We can't let up now.
Georgian's who cherish their second amendment civil liberties should all be thankful for the extraordinary work put forth by Senator Mitch Seabaugh and Representative Billy Horne. And, yes there are many others who helped, bet these two were out front and withstood very many attacks from our opponents.
Georgia will be a much friendlier state to gun rights if we can get these bill signed into law.
There is so very much spin going on in our country today that I for one have a very hard time keeping up with what some folks out there are saying, much less what they actually mean. I just want to say thanks to Governor Perdue for signing SB 291 and SB 308. With all the socialistic tendencies of the misguided liberal socialist politicians we have in public offices, there are more chances that socialism / communism will gain more of a hold on control of Americans freedoms. To quote; Norman Thomas, American Socialist Party, 1944: "We can not expect the Americans to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of socialism until they suddenly awake to find they have Communism" end quote. Think about that as you chose your next elected leaders.
Thanks, Sonny Keep up the good work of protecting our current FREEDOMS.
Tom Wyckoff, Patriot and voter
