Brittany Murphy, who besides her movie roles had great success as the voice of Luanne Platter on Fox's animated show King of the Hill, died after going into massive cardiac arrest at the Los Angeles home of her husband, British screenwriter Simon Monjack. Murphy was 32 years old.
A call was made to 911 from Monjack's home at approximately 8 a.m. on December 20. Paramedics transported Murphy to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and a spokesperson for the hospital says that Murphy was declared dead at 10:04 a.m. No further details about the cause of her death were given, and Murphy's representatives are not returning press phone calls.
Murphy started her acting career at a young age, and landed recurring roles on several television shows in the early 90s, including Drexler's Class, Almost Home, and Sister, Sister.
But her big breakout role was in the Alicia Silverstone movie Clueless, playing Tai, who Silverstone's character helps transform from quirky nobody to guy magnet. From there she landed other memorable roles in films like 8 Mile and Girl, Interrupted.
Before he became involved with Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher dated Murphy. On the loss of his friend, Kutcher wrote on his Twitter feed:
"2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany’s family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon... see you on the other side kid."
Murphy had filmed 3 recent movies currently in post-production, including Abandoned, Something Wicked, and the film The Expendables, which also is packed with action stars including Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, and Jet Li.
