It's down to the wire, folks. Nominations for the 2009 Emmy Awards will be announced Thursday morning. You guys have done your part to support 'Grey's Anatomy' by letting us know which of its stars deserve recognition. Unfortunately, the situation is now out of our hands. All we can do now is sit back and wait, and hope that before filling out their ballots, the Emmy voters saw these five scenes (presented here in no particular order) that prove why 'Grey's Anatomy' was truly Emmy-worthy in its fifth season:
Episode 13 "Stairway To Heaven": Meredith Grey has had plenty of dark and twisty moments in her life, but none have been portayed on the show as hauntingly as her fulfillment of her promise to patient William Dunn to watch his execution. Ellen Pompeo's facial expressions show us her true anguish as she tries to understand her need to show compassion for a serial killer.
Episode 24 "Now Or Never": Izzie flatlines in Alex's arms. George traces "007" on Meredith's hands. And as everyone else rushes to save their friends, the viewers can feel the world crashing down around them.
Episode 6, "Life During Wartime": In a moment of pure raw emotion, Erica Hahn is overcome by the realization that she's unequivocably gay, and compares her new lover Callie to the glasses she hadn't realized she'd needeed as a child- until she began to see things through them. But her ecstasy turns to heartbreak when she begins to sense Callie's fear and uncertainty. Brooke Smith, who played Hahn, was mysteriously fired from the show shortly after, and the only explanation given was that her character "wasn't working". But I challenge anyone to watch this scene and find one thing that didn't work about it.
Episode 22 "Here's To Future Days": Izzie's slow, stumbling walk down the aisle at her surprise dream wedding to Alex (with the touching assist of her best friend, George) was this year's best example of the blend of sweeping romance and intense medical drama that propelled 'Grey's' to an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series in 2006.
Episode 24 "Now Or Never": The tortured romance between Cristina Yang and Owen Hunt gave the show much of its magic back this season. Their love story culminated in this painful scene where Cristina chokes out the words "I love you" to Owen as if it's killing her, and he calmly asks her to meet him halfway.
Notice how short this list is? That's because I want you to tell me what other scene five moments you hope registered on the minds of the Emmy voters. Alternately, what scenes do you hope they didn't see? Have at it in the comments section.

Ellen Pompeo
she deserves it a lot specially for her prisoner episodes. those were breathtaking.
Justin Chambers and Ellen Pompeo did amazing this season. I don't see why people didn't like the scenes in 'elevator love letter' more.
Brooke Smith FOR SURE!! You are right Erin... EVERYTHING worked about it.. everything worked about the whole relationship. Silly silly ABC.
Ellen Pompeo without any doubt. She's a great and underrated actress. Heigl can't act. She's so overrated.
Patrick Dempsey's performance going back into surgery when the oncology doctor questions his choice of surgical instrument. Dempsey perfectly portrays the moment when Derek's confidence comes back, inch by inch, until the arrogance and confidence he needs is back in full force.
Brooke Smith! Her performance was amazing! Tears running down her face while pouring her heart out! Amazing! I cried with her!
Brooke Smith. Hands-down.
What I don't get is just because people are frustrated with Meredith, nobody gives Ellen Pompeo any credit, she was great this season! But the best, as always, was Sandra Oh, nobody tops Christina.
brooke smith for sure. i mean she's amazing but she never gets any recognition
PD in Derek's dark & twisty period. Especially in the scene with the Chief when he yells at a drunk Derek and suddenly he becomes this mess once he realizes what he has done. I'd add that up.
