The 4th annual Hybridfest Green Drive Expo was held at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin on July 18th and 19th. It gave corporations and experimenters alike the opportunity to ply their wares and share their ideas with the public and each other.
The exposition featured mainly the automotive aspect of the green movement but there were also a few exhibits that were focused on renewable energy and conservation.
Toyota and Ford were the largest sponsors of the event with their hybrid and electric automobiles on display. Attendees were given the chance to take them out for a drive. Madison Gas and Electric was also displaying their current and future technologies that will aid in their part to deliver sustainable and renewable energy to their customers.
Eric Powers, founder of Green Drive Expo, started his new career after buying his first hybrid (a Honda Insight). "I started Green Drive Expo about four years ago with some friends of mine and we thought we should get together the people in the hybrid car community. We also realized it should be an opportunity. Why should it be just us talking amongst the converted? Let’s talk to the public. We know there are a lot of myths and rumors out there so let's talk to them and share our stories. We also knew it was a good way for the other sponsors and exhibiters to talk about their side of it as well. So we brought it all together in one big show."
When asked if he planned to remain focused on transportation or if he planned to branch out further into all avenues of the green industry he said, “We know that the people who come here are interested in green living itself so we would like to expand into that. We would really like to support the green initiatives in the region.”
