Maclaren plans to recall 1 million strollers---all its production between 1999 and 2009---after receiving a dozen reports of hinges on the stroller that amputated children's fingertips. The company will send out a cover for the hinges to all owners.
The CPSC and Maclaren will issue a press release in the recall this Tuesday; Maclaren began notifying its dealers of the recall in the past couple of days.
Here is what parents should do until the recall is officiall:
• Stop using all Maclaren strollers. EVERY model made since 1999 is included in the recall.
• When the recall goes public on Tuesday, order a hinge cover from Maclaren's web site or phone line. (Note: the web site is not live yet as of this writing).
• Do not use the stroller again until the hinge cover has been installed.

Presumably the source is a Maclaren dealer, since the article states that "Maclaren began notifying its dealers of the recall in the past couple of days".
they just announced major stroller recall on the news this morning
It's TRUE it was just on Good Morning America and that is why I just looked it up!!!!!!
I also so it on FOX 5 Morning News.
It's all over the news!
I own a Maclaren stroller. The only way a toddler can get their fingers chopped off on a Maclaren stroller is if the toddler puts their finger on the hinge when opening or closing the stroller. Common sense would tell you not to stick your finger there. Parents need to be more responsible.
IT is true for you non believers its just not going to be posted til tomorrow.. IT was on the news and they said it will be public tomorrow but it looks like its already public LOL!
I agree with Common Sense. I have two young kids, and have used my Maclaren strollers (I own two) daily for 5 years and have never had any problems.

One thing a lot of people do not realize is that parents often miss recalls and then sell their baby furniture second hand on sites like Craigslist. With the economy the way it is, and people buying second hand, recall notices are not getting to the current owners. In Mclarens case, for example, the first children to ride in those strollers would be 10 years old by now. Those strollers could have been sold and resold by now, with who knows how many children potentially harmed by each one.
I am an Atlanta personal injury lawyer specializing in child safety, and Ive found that a great way to keep track of recalls is to subscribe to the Consumer Product Safety Commissions recall RSS feed, found on their site. (As I can't include URLs there, please google them.) Just try not to get discouraged by all the recalls youll see come through. Ive blogged about this extensively over at my MLN Law blog, too.
