IGNITING INSPIRATION by John Marshall Roberts
In early 2009, many people are looking for jobs, i.e. career changes. Anyone looking for a new job entering this new year can benefit from the book "Igniting Inspiration" by John Marshall Roberts . Making progress in a stiff job market is all about forming relationships with people that last, in other words, sustainable communications. "Igniting Inspiration" shows those of us trying to live and work sustainably, how to communicate our messages in order to do just that. Roberts' techniques are explained clearly and in detailed on how one to get your message across. Roberts is uniquely prepared for his work as a communications specialist through "a combination of experience, education and musical training." Roberts parents were divorced four times each. Roberts is clear that he "felt from an early age that poor communication is the root of failed relationships, failed lives and failed society. Psychology gives me the words to articulate and explain that sense of connection that can occur between humans who are willing to let their guard down to share in the mystery of experience," Roberts said.
Working for over a decade as a strategic communications specialist helped Roberts develop and hone his message, working for socially conscious companies. Roberts book reflects how his experience with music contributed.
"Music has shown me how to listen for the emerging heart within any situation. Trial and error has taught we how bad things can go when one is not willing to be authentic in his or her communications...The key is actually humility. The more I learn, the less I claim to know. But one thing's for sure; I can help draw others with a unique passion that uplifts and inspires. I'm very grateful for this skill and eager to use it in the service of others," Roberts explained.
The following is Robert's mission for his book, "Igniting Inspiration" describes Roberts theory.
"Without an understanding of inspired communications, all of our good ideas will go...Our society will continue to suffocate under a blanket of collective cynicism and resignation. Our problem is not that we lack good ideas. Our problem is that we seem to lack the will to follow through on the good ideas we have. I believe that the only way to create the collective willpower is through inspired communication," Roberts said. "That is the goal of my book, to train people to uplift and inspire through any medium. I've been getting letters from people around the country who are getting great results with this framework."
Roberts says that this book is for, "Anyone who cares about our world and wants to be of service will benefit. Anyone looking for a simple, practical and inspired way of understanding communication. Technically my market is "socially conscious professionals". Ultimately, this translates into "people with jobs who actually care. It's a growing group. I'm proud to count myself among them."
Roberts' advice for others considering writing a book is blunt. "For anyone who is considering writing a book, I'd say...Try not to do it. If the book keeps calling you to write it, then you know it's the real deal. Don't write a book. Let a book write you. What is your unique calling in this world? What particular insight do you have that others will benefit from? Is your heart in the right place?"
There's a reason, Roberts asks about the heart. "Otherwise...you will be on an ego trip...which is fine except that the creative energies of the universe won't support you. Ego-based activities usually aren't sustainable or successful. Even when they are, they require a lot of struggle and maintenance. I've learned this the hard way."
For those who entertain thoughts of writing that novel someday, his advice is relevant. Roberts has been building his career for years. Roberts believes speaking is his forte. "The best way of building a buzz around a book is through speaking. When I speak, people are able to see the concepts that I talk about in action. There's something magical about being so married to this vision that time and space seem to dissolve. This is how powerful the vision behind this book is for me. It's about the vision and my job is to reflect that vision. When I can humble myself enough to do so, people get very, very inspired." Roberts said. "My vision is one of power and hope for the rest of humanity. I believe that people have the untapped potential to transform their lives and the world through communication. I have the deepest conviction that this is so."
For sustainable and green communicators, Roberts explains, "Understand that other people view the world through the lens of their own separate value systems. These different value systems should be catered to, via your message, accordingly. Respect these different paradigms that coexist with our own. Respect is the key ingredient to creating mental rapport which is the first step of any transformational conversation."
"Igniting Inspiration" is a "must read" book for anyone interested in communicating in the business of green sustainability.
