National Geographic is sponsoring a new contest designed to teach kids about their footprints and get them brainstorming on how to make a difference in their schools. Prizes include ActivBoard interactive whiteboards, sets of ActivExpressions learner response systems, a National Geographic "library" and magazine subscriptions.
The contest asks:
How BIG is your human footprint?
We all change the Earth with the stuff that we buy, use, and throw away. This is called our human footprint. How your footprint changes the Earth is up to you.
Want to make a difference?
Enter the Find Your Footprint Contest. Learn about your footprint so you can help make a greener world and a greener school. Your school could win five Promethean interactive whiteboards, which could help cut down on the amount of paper you use. So go green and have your teacher enter your classroom's best idea now!
Classes are asked to first pick a theme—Save Water, Reduce Waste, or Save Energy—to address. They should choose the theme upon which the class can have the greatest impact. Then they research the theme, talk to school officials about their school’s environmental footprint, brainstorm ways to make it smaller, write up a proposal and illustrate it all with a photograph, poster, video or essay.
Teachers enter on behalf of their classrooms, and must work in k-6 public or private schools. For full details, see the contest page.
This would be a great way to green up Mankato schools!
The deadline is December 3, 2010.
