Christi Turner is a grassroots sustainable development professional, working with communities to improve local livelihoods while protecting the natural environment. For this work she made her home in Madagascar for five years, and more recently in Kenya and Tanzania. She built Madagascar's first solar-powered radio station, created a community-managed nature reserve, as well as a range of other projects designed to empower communities to sustainably manage their own resources. Also a photographer, she uses her images to raise awareness about conservation and development issues the world over. But for Christi, it's time to focus her global experience on her local home state: back in Rhode Island, she works in the green building and sustainable living sectors, and hopes to motivate other Rhode Islanders to join the movement.
