The Farrah Fawcett Cancer Research foundation opened its doors in 2010 to celebrate her life and commemorate her death --

Farrah Fawcett passed away one year ago.

On June 25, the day of her death, her closest friends marked the first anniversary of her passing by dedicating a cancer-research foundation in her name, says the Hollywood Culture Examiner.

According to the report, Best friend Alana Stewart, long term love interest Ryan O'Neal, actress Tatum O'Neal and son Redmond O'Neal gathered in Beverly Hills on Friday.

The new offices of the Farrah Fawcett Foundation, which funds alternative cancer research and treatment methods, are located in the famous Hollywood neighborhood.

Fawcett was the most well known and loved pinup girl of the 1970s. As a swimsuit model and covergirl, everyone knew her.

Also an actress, Fawcett starred on the hit television series "Charlie's Angels", and made a profound statement as an actress when she played in the movie "The Burning Bed".

Fawcett's movie star looks, trend setting celebrity hairstyle, and flashy smile made her a Hollywood fashion icon appreciated by women and men as a girl next door type sex symbol.

HCE says the star died June 25, 2009, after a long battle with anal cancer.

Stewart now says she hopes the foundation can raise awareness and discover new treatments for the little-known disease that only affect a small few.

Not to leave a mark of an elitist, Fawcett inspired the group to make pediatric cancer another focus for the foundation.

Farrah's foundation will aim to encourage exploration of the disease in the hopes of finding more effective treatments and improve cancer patients' daily quality of life.
