Oil Spill? What oil spill? Top Chef Tom Colicchio is just one celebrity chef who says people should continue to buy seafood from fishermen who earn their living fishing the formerly pristine waters of the Gulf of Mexico. His confidence in the safe to fish zones and inspection procedures is high. It's good news to hear he has made a humanitarian plea, but bad news for the remaining living fish.

Celebrity Chefs like Tom Colicchio are touting seafood from the Gulf of Mexico, hoping to help keep local coastal fishermen in the New Orleans, Louisiana and their families in business.

The Food Network star visited New Orleans on June 27 to investigate Louisiana Seafood -- and to try to determine if there is anything fishy about eating it thanks to the BP Oil Spill.

Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Robert J. Barnham says 70 percent of the Gulf remains open to fishing and thousands of inspections happening daily are ensuring the seafood being sent to fish markets nationwide is oil-free.

AP news reports:

A group of celebrity chefs is teaming up to promote seafood from the Gulf of Mexico.

Their message to consumers: Stop worrying about it and start buying it.

Several chefs visited the Louisiana coast on Monday to get a firsthand look at the safety and availability of Louisiana seafood.

Top Chef judge and restaurateur Tom Colicchio (koh-LIHK-ee-oh) says the Gulf is a big area and safe areas are still being fished. He says he plans to serve Louisiana seafood in his restaurants.
